...futile.

[Kain glares harshly into the screen.]

What use were our actions in the cycles of war, if that threat was destined to be reborn again? Will defeating Chaos now make any difference? Was it all in vain?

[Angry dragoon sounds especially angry by the end of that. Then his tone shifts to be much lighter by the time he switches it to a private transmission.]

[Private; Reis]

...I would see you, as soon as you're willing.

[Between her fire magic and those with white magic, the undead of the Devil's Road don't prove to be too much of a challenge. Rydia does her best to conserve her energy, though. From what the moogle said, she would need every bit of it for the real fight ahead.

Deep within the road, she finally sees the myrrh tree they need to reach...and the dragon lurking nearby. Unfortunately, the dragon takes notice of them quickly and so Rydia has no time to reach for the rod which would grant them some protection. Instead, she concentrates. It's time to summon the Mist Dragon....]
[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com
[Rydia's frowning into the screen, tense after what she just heard.]

The moogles have told me that the myrrh tree within the Devil's Road is ready to be harvested...and that there's a dragon guarding it. I have the chalice, so I'm going. Anyone willing and able to wade through that area with me is welcome, but they better be ready. I'm not going to wait for long.

[She turns off the sky phone, and begins gathering the essentials. Then it's time to ask Rosa to unseal the Road.]
[identity profile] byhissidealways.livejournal.com
[ It had really been Lilisette's idea, and she had been instrumental in getting it all planned out and running. Rosa was grateful to the girl's diligence and cheer, willing to help out wherever needed. The courtyard of the castle was set up with decorations and refreshments, and tables and chairs had been set up as well, in case people wanted to sit down for a little bit. The castle was also being decorated, so people could also wander around if they wanted to as well.

For her part, Rosa had sent Cecil on set duties for the day, periodically checking up on him to be sure he was doing all right and to be sure he wasn't planning on going back before they were ready.

Eventually, everything was prepared, the guests were due to arrive shortly, and Rosa was on her way to fetch her husband. ]

Cecil?

[ ooc: party style! tag in wherever and have fun. the main area is the courtyard, but there's also the castle to mingle in. so feel free to mingle around! ]

[Lilisette has her phone propped against something, and she's looking at a very, very long list of the friends and family of Cecil Harvey. There are a lot of names she knows, and a whole bunch of names she doesn't. Either way, she hopes she got everyone into the filter. But honestly there are so many names it's almost not even worth it to filter it.

All the same, if you know King Cecil Harvey, resident dad and shipperdin, you are on this list--courtesy of Queen Rosa--and this call is for you.]

Hello everyone!

I realize that there are many people who don't know me; my name is Lilisette, and I'm still relatively new to Gaia. Still, when I heard that King Cecil's birthday is on the 30th, I called Queen Rosa immediately, and we planned to have a surprise party here in Troia. We really wished to throw him a large party, to take everyone's mind off of the gravity of the situation that surrounds us.

So, consider this your invitation! Queen Rosa is very much looking forward to your attendance, and I'll be there with some entertainment. Also, this is supposed to be a surprise, so please don't mention it to him. I'm doing this so he won't see it on Queen Rosa's phone.

Remember! The thirtieth, at five in the evening. If you can, let me know here that you're coming. That way we're certain there's enough food for everyone. Otherwise, I hope to see you all there.

[She offers her most winning smile and then ends the feed. If no one comes it'll be her fault and she'll cry. SO YOU ALL BETTER COME! And for Cecil, too.]

[Though she had spent the last week preparing, and sleeping after the lack of it, Frimelda had still been busy. Partly, scouring every avenue availiable to her, in pursuit of something: and that hard work had paid of, the evidence of which was now in a satchel over her shoulder. A crystal chalice.

Whilst she had been able to purchase passage past Gizamaluke's Grotto by airship - after much persuasion - the pilot refused to approach the island and the outline that was presumably the Dragon, which, was probably the wisest move. Approaching from ground level was perhaps the best chance they had to reach the creature before it spotted them. The final leg of pursuing the myrrh tree and its guardian would be by boat, which she had also arranged.

All that remained now was to meet with her companions. In the early morning light, she kept watch on deck for the monster population in case they dared draw near to the seemingly easy moored target, her provisions for the fight ahead stashed onboard the vessel, but close to hand - there was no guarantee that the fight would not end up taking place on that very deck, afterall.]
[identity profile] pathtowalk.livejournal.com
[Frimelda looks pensive, as well as worn. She has, admittedly, just had the first decent night's rest in several weeks, but she's not allowing herself to rest for long in Lindblum. There's something that's bothering her.]

On the return from the Earth Shrine, the airship passed over Burmecia. The air was not still... whilst we passed over, a Dragon of sorts could be seen in the sky, and, near to the surviving island.

[A pause.] ... There was a myrrh tree on the island, was there not? Perhaps it was serving as a guard? [Another pause.] Regardless, it needs to be dealt with. I would wish to return with the proper aid, in the near future... and a crystal chalice, if one can be found.

[ooc: let's go fight Silver Dragon: commence! Cecil was up for this before, Stella, Silk, are you still up for sending Golbez and Rosa? I would probably put something up next week.]
[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com
[Shortly after emerging from the Water Shrine, Rydia turns on her phone. She can't hide the exhaustion in her voice completely, but there are some things she needs to know.]

How did the other teams fare? Did you defeat your guardians? And...did you encounter Lufene, too?

[Grey, deadened wasteland, as far as the eye can see. The camera shows the midst of a huge battlefield, littered with long-dead bodies and fallen war machines. In the distance there are ruins of a whole city: derelict skeletons of buildings that have all been long abandoned and fallen into disrepair. In the midst of it all is a lone paladin, taking in the devastation around him as the camera grows closer.]

Here's your Sky Phone, kupo! Need help with how to use it?

[Cecil catches sight of the speaker and reaches to take the phone from the little creature. He shakes his head.]

That won't be necessary, thank you. You're free to leave. This is no place for a...

--Moogle, kupo! Thanks, mister. This place gives me the creeps...

[The camera jerks as Cecil picks up the phone and it moves to his height, then it re-focuses on his face as he tries to remember the phone's functions. While his unnerving surroundings certainly concern him, there are two people he needs to find as soon as possible.]

I'm looking for my family. Their names are Ceodore and Rosa. I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me their whereabouts, and if they're safe.

[It's early morning in Dali when Frimelda and her comrade arrive. Signs of the place being attacked, repeatedly, are clear on the outsides of buildings... the fiends that presumably made them are now defeated. At least, a number of them.

The journey had been long, and difficult. Not difficult in taking the fiends down: to an extent, their relentlessness, but, it's not really that, either. No, the difficulties have been in finding so many settlements destroyed, and... very few survivors. A few at South Gate... one or two scattered elsewhere. When the continent had been overrun, it had truly been ovverun by monsters. Whilst the bigger cities still stood, even though they had battle scars to show for it, the smaller settlements had not stood a chance.

Choices had to be made to get to Dali quicker, the one likely village where people may still be there to be found. Now was the time to set about it...

-

... A little while after arriving, Frimelda takes out her phone, addressing the network. She looks worn, and subdued.]
You may not know me, but I would ask but a moment of your time. I am Frimelda. I, as well as Auron, set out from Lindblum a little over two weeks past, to aid the villages that lay across the Mist Continent.

[There's a pause.] We have reached Dali, and between... there was no much left to aid. Settlements had been completely destroyed. The people lost to us. Few have survived and made it to safe places, such as South Gate... perhaps, to Lindblum, or, here, to Dali.

... There is aid we could provide, by relief from the tide of monsters. But what is most needed for these people are homes.

To any people of Dali that may be hearing this, we hope you will accept the aid we can provide. [She just hopes that are people to hear this. She waits a moment, before the feed ends.]

[The first thing that’s to be seen is the face of a rather annoyed Angeal Hewley, surrounded by woods and fog, the video swaying and dipping from side-to-side. In the background there’s some laughter coming from none other that the moogles that greet everyone.]

Say hello, kupo!

Yeah, you have to say hi to all the people!

[Angeal sighs, closing his eyes before looking to the flying creature.] I’ve already said hello.

That was to us, Kupo!

You have to say something to everyone else!

…If I say hello to everyone else, will you give me my phone back? [Some might recognize this tone, the one that clearly sounded as if he were really saying “If you don’t give me my phone I’ll make you regret not doing so somehow.”]

[A clamor of voices:] Of course!

[Angeal pauses, looking off to the side. This was all clearly belittling to him.] Hello, people of Gaia.

[They laugh again.] What’s your name, mister?

Angeal Hewley, [He said plainly.]

Good! That was excellent! [The video suddenly zooms in on Angeal’s abdomen, gloved hands moving up to grip the phone as the view point turns to the two moogles leaving and waving to him before the video cuts with a small fumble.]

Greetings, citizens and friends of Gaia.

I have news for you all regarding our quest to find and defeat Garland. I also have a request to make.

We have learned that Garland may be found in a place called the Chaos Shrine. But to locate it requires the use of four elemental crystals, which I have now obtained. These crystals must be placed in the elemental shrines: Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. However, the shrines are guarded by fearsome monsters.

I wish to put together four teams who will each take a crystal and place them in their respective shrines. All transport will be provided, and my finest Lindblum guards will escort you to the entrance. If you volunteer, bear in mind that you will be facing a tough battle - one that you must win. We can't afford to lose the crystals.

These teams will be sent out a week from now, on 11th June. Send me a message here if you want to go! We need all the help we can get.

But that's not all. After the crystals have been placed, a party must journey to the Ronka Ruins, where I'm told that there is a device which can be activated to show the way to the Chaos Shrine. That is our goal: to find the Chaos Shrine. Again, I must warn you that this will be a dangerous and difficult mission. I want to send out a party as soon as possible after the shrines have been beaten. Tell me if you wish to go!

After that, we'll reconvene and consider how to defeat Garland. I have no doubt: it can be done. To everyone who volunteers and all those who have ever helped to protect Gaia in even the smallest of ways, you have my gratitude. Soon we'll see our hard work rewarded.

- Cid Fabool IX, Regent of Lindblum

Penelo has vanished from Gaia.

[Simple, direct. Mjrn doesn't trust her voice at the moment, so text it is and remains.]

[Filtered from Garland/Lufene]

I have heard the moogles speak of a myrrh tree within Raithwall's Tomb, and two guardians. Given the pattern thus far, I am certain this means the time for their use is nigh. I wish to travel there, and defeat the guardians so that I may collect the myrrh with the chalice bestowed to me. It is time, and I must do my part.
[identity profile] lionsguard.livejournal.com
[ The feed opens rather abruptly to that familiar pitch blackness that can only ever be caused by a wayward hand or paw. A most unpleasant sort of static follows, effectively muffling the words of whoever is speaking over the course of the next twenty seconds. Within that time, the paw obscuring the Skyphone's camera shifts and prompts a burst of color that whorls for a moment as a result of the phone's subsequent movement, then comes to an abrupt halt with only a single digit cutting a corner of the image from view. Anyone familiar with the streets of Lindblum's business district may very well recognize the structures in the background and the sounds that come with it; though, they are somewhat dim compared to the voice that cuts through the static with a single word. ]

Lindblum.

[ That the name comes so easily to the unseen speaker causes one of the moogles to literally stop in his tracks in view of the camera, his pompom bobbing from the force with which he does. The static begins its recession and the voice becomes clearer, strong yet feminine and somewhat... different, if you happen to know its owner, in that it does not carry its usual force. ]

That's right, kupo! This is Lindblum, but how did you know? I don't think we said --

Gaia then.

[ It is said with some finality, but none of the emotion that might be expected to accompany such a realization. There is no anger, no frustration, no joy, no relief to be heard. In their place is simply acknowledgment. Nothing more, nothing less. The moogle currently in view turns his head with an expression of hopeless bewilderment toward the camera. Another voice cuts through the hustle and bustle of the business district now, most likely that of the moogle holding the Skyphone. ]

Nevermind that, kupo! She needs medical attention right away! Just look at those injuries! Go get help, kupo!

O-okay, kupo!

[ And off runs the moogle as fast as he can, quickly vanishing from sight. For a moment, the street is all that can be seen and heard, and then -- ]

Please sit down, kupo! He'll be back soon with a healer, but it'd be bad if you fainted before he got here. So please, kupo!

Is that a Skyphone?

[ What immediately follows is more of that unpleasant static, which effectively masks the exact words being exchanged. If the tone of the moogle's voice is any indication, though, the woman either isn't hearing her or isn't complying one and the moogle is becoming quite upset for it. A short burst of static, possibly resulting from a sigh, precedes a sudden whorl of color. When it stops, it is obvious that the device now rests in the hands of a human woman -- blond, her hair styled in the fashion of an age long since passed, with amber eyes and a face not unpleasant to look at should one look past the blood and dirt that stains her right cheek. What's more is the bruising along the right side of her temple and neck and what blood seems to be trickling down the latter from behind her right ear; and yet, she stands straight and seemingly composed, unfaltering as she regards the camera. If she is in pain, she does not show it, the knight's resolve now visible in her eyes and audible through her voice despite something of her earlier tone that lingers. ]

I am Agrias Oaks, captain of the Lionsguard of Ivalice. I would have the aid of any willing to offer it in exchange for my gratitude. 'T was... unexpected, this turn of events. [ And that is all she will say upon that matter, her fingers seeking the appropriate buttons to end the feed. Having ended the video, she turns just so and gazes for a long moment in the direction she had been looking upon arrival. Although she says nothing, the fingers of the hand at her side curl silently into a fist for her memory of the vision that had greeted her before she opened her eyes to Lindblum. It's only when the moogle implores her to sit again that she seems to snap out of it; though, her thoughts continue to linger elsewhere as she stands resolute. Was it truly...? ]
[identity profile] byhissidealways.livejournal.com
[ Today is not a normal day. Rosa wakes up to an empty bed. Her first thought is that Cecil's up early, so she simply goes through her normal routine, washing up, getting dressed. Once she's finally ready, she begins searching for him, just to see how his morning is going so far. When she can't immediately find him is when she starts to worry, but it's early afternoon before she comes to any conclusive evidence that what she's feared has come to pass: Cecil is nowhere to be found.

It's not like him to leave without a trace. He would have told her, or left a note. Somehow, she would have found out. But no... nothing. There's nothing but emptiness.

So, once she's absolutely sure of what happened... she retires to her bedchambers again and readies a text to Gaia's population. ]

Cecil... Cecil has taken his leave of Gaia. I cannot find him. I will govern Troia in his place... as I did before.

[ She will remain in her bedchambers for the entire day, unless otherwise needed. Clearly, this means someone needs to come bug her. ]

I don't know if you've seen it yet, but Rinoa says there's a way to go home. I think I'm going to take it.

[She takes a deep breath, because this is a hard thing to decide and it's even harder to say.]

But I'm not going back to Ivalice. I don't really have anything there, not anymore.

[Her head drops and she falls silent while thinking about how to explain this. When that's decided, she lifts her head with determination.]

A long time ago, I told Edward if we had a choice, I'd go home with him. I know he's not here anymore and I know it's dangerous, but I want to keep that promise. He may not know me anymore or remember anything...

I don't want him to be alone. If I can be there, that will be enough for me.

[OOC: Sorry, guys! This is dated to earlier than this, sometime after the Matoya trip, because I was kind of fail about getting it up, obviously.]

[When the Warrior turns on his Sky Phone, he's frowning at it. Not angrily, just deep in thought. It's a moment before he shakes himself out of it and responds. Even with the awkwardness and insults at the beginning of the visit, what they spoke of there was of grave importance.]

As some of you know, in the wake of the Lunar Cry, Regent Cid requested that a group of us travel to visit Matoya, because of her knowledge of Garland and of the cycles. We spoke with her once more, and what she told us...

She said that we must create a new source of life, by merging our own lives with that of this world. That this is the only thing that will end the spell Garland put in place that draws us to this world. The method to do so is through the myrrh, and bringing it to the Iifa Tree. That will bind us to this world, and end the spell. Defeating Garland, it seems, is not the final step in ending the enchantments that draw us here. This will be the method through which not only this world, but all the worlds, are saved. However... even once this magic is defeated, we will not be returned to our own worlds. We cannot.

[He closes his eyes and takes a breath before continuing.]

It is possible for us to be returned. However, doing so will threaten the world itself- the act of returning could very well destroy all of the worlds.

[He almost goes to say something more, but then shakes his head.] That is all.
