...futile.

[Kain glares harshly into the screen.]

What use were our actions in the cycles of war, if that threat was destined to be reborn again? Will defeating Chaos now make any difference? Was it all in vain?

[Angry dragoon sounds especially angry by the end of that. Then his tone shifts to be much lighter by the time he switches it to a private transmission.]

[Private; Reis]

...I would see you, as soon as you're willing.

[Delita stands at the entrance to the mines, chalice in his pack. If the rumors were true, these drops would ensure that none other would be separated. That reason alone would have been enough to bring him to Goug.

He was thankful that his comrades were going to join him this day, for he knew his strength was not sufficient to vanquish the red chocobo.]

[Delita looks at the chalice in his hands.]

Miss Duelar,

We were successful in achieving a Myrrh drop.

[Excenmille's been reading up all about the situation Gaia faces on mooglenet, and from reading unfiltered posts here there and everywhere has been able to establish a loose knowledge of the myrrh trees, Lufene, Garland, and the spell. And as such, the kid has his target. And the arrogance to actually think he can find and defeat him. So. The post certainly has purpose, as misguided as it is.

...Also, it is accompanied by a background noise of a chocobo chick chirping contentedly. He is busy preparing a meal for it, mashing some unfortunate worms and carrots together into a thick, disgusting looking paste. It's a misconception chocobos are herbivores. Meat helps build strong bones. If anything, it's to be trained in San d'Orian fashion. No, to be molded. Into something strong, and very aggressive. Something that can be used in battle. Shame the poor thing is quite sweet natured and oblivious to this fact. To Excenmille, this little thing is not a pet. It's something that will become a formidable weapon with all care, all patience, and a hell of a lot of work.
]

Etoile, if you wouldn't mind waiting five minutes--

...
[Oh, it's recording. He resumes grinding the paste.]

This goes out to any that seek to oppose the sorcerer Garland. As the head of House Aurchiat, a long-standing great house of warriors, I entreat you to make yourselves known to me and to accept me into your ranks to fight beside you. The valour of my ancestors, and the honour of my house upon any world requires that I not remain idle in this matter.

[Cue a happy kweh, and the chocobo chick clambering into his lap and dunking it's head into the bowl of paste -- almost getting crushed while doing so.]

Etoile--!

[After this. Kain and Zephyr tear through the air, riding rapidly to Matoya's cave. As it approaches below them, Kain feels that familiar knot of dread in his stomach that the place always gives him. But this time not because of the old seer.]

[They soar along and downward, Zephyr landing and making impatient sounds at Kain. He leaps off of her, patting her and leaving her to rest. That was a faster flight than usual and he worries over her overexerting herself. Time she gets some much needed rest, as he approaches the cave.]

[A flood of emotions and anxieties fills his mind. What if she's already gone? What if something else horrible has happened to her because of neglecting herself? All the 'what ifs'. Including a quiet and dark thought that starts with: what if she doesn't really...]

[Ignoring the side of him that tells him this is futile and he doesn't deserve this, Kain heads into the cave. The clanking of armor can be heard as he approaches.]

-er.

There's a lady here? Anyone know her? Just- she's been staring at that thing for a few days now.

[The camera turns to show Reis staring at the portal.]

I don't know whether she wants to go or what but can someone at least convince her to eat or something? I've been trying but it's like I'm not even there and she's not looking so well-

[To have heard rumors of the tower in the taverns of Ivalice was one matter. Another still to hear of it from the lips of her companions who ventured into the depths of wilderness to see the rumored Wonder. Yet to see it with her own eyes and from the air as they approached the island is a humbling and awe-inspiring event. The aerial approach shows that it is not at all possible to reach the top by any means but foot, having no other berth for landing save the unkempt grasses surrounding the labyrinth.

Upon setting foot at the gates to the guardian maze, Reis looks to her companions for one to play the leader. Her need to find answers has brought her here, yet others are familiar with the grounds if it be the same as they have known.]

Now that we are come, it is the tower known to you?

((ooc: Backdated to the 1st, so it falls before Cid's announcement of the shrines.))

[Reis is just confused. She's read the letter several times over but she simply cannot fathom what to even make of it. She's idly walking through the town as she reads, meandering her way to the castle. Either she'll run into the suspected sender or at least can consult with his dragon for her interpretation of it, though Hume behavior is sometimes beyond Zephyr's understanding. If it were simply a love letter and nothing more, she would kindly turn him down. He knows what Beowulf means to her. That aside, he's confessed to having someone he loves that he cannot be with... oh dear. No. No, that's not possible. There's mention of walking on the beach? This has never happened. Nor would he call himself 'grumpy dragon guy.'

No, even with more thought, Reis is no closer to reaching any sort of conclusion whatsoever.]
[identity profile] dragoncursed.livejournal.com
[Reis is comfortably situated near the pool in Troia, enjoying the sunshine while some women swim in the waters. She herself is pouring over a map attained from a moogle. Following her talk with Cecil, there are questions she simply must have answers to.]

I would see this Crystal Tower for myself. Are there any who know of it? I have seen it in Ivalice and I wish to know if it be the same.

[There is a thoughtful pause, a portion of her knowledge regarding the place which seems important, even though others have taken issue with it.]

It is said that this spire was once found in the heart of the kingdom of Baron, protected at its base by the city. Its crystal walls stood as a symbol of the royal family's wealth and power, as well as oppression.

I intend to travel to the Citadel of Trials. Lufene must be stopped, or she will lay waste to this entire world. I have faced the Citadel before... if doing so again will give me strength to defeat Lufene and Garland, then I will not hesitate.

I assume you have all spoken to Kain. What do you think, of his words?

[identity profile] dragoon-rising.livejournal.com
[Vague apology is going to be vague, but that's how Kain does these things. He'll leave it public partially as an act of penance, partially because he's still readjusting to these devices and their filters. He isn't even sure that all of these people are here- he's been gone from Gaia for only a couple weeks, but to him it feels much, much longer. Don't worry Zidane, when he realizes you're not here, he'll bother you when you arrive.]

Cecil. Squall. Onion Knight. Bartz. Firion. Zidane. I apologize to all of you, especially.

I should also extend that apology to the other warriors of Cosmos as well.

I'm... sorry.

[He's still recovering, but he can't finish this without offering:]

...and if anyone has need for another fighter, I can be there at once.
[identity profile] dragoon-rising.livejournal.com
[When he comes to, Kain really wishes he hadn't. He's sore and battle-worn and laying in a swamp of all places, surrounded by a thick mist. The memories of what he only just experienced come readily to mind. Their battle is over and done, at a great cost, but one he knows was necessary. True, none of his group will ever know the ultimate outcome, but... at least the others have a fighting chance now.]

[He notices motion nearby through the mist and the video picks up the image as well, as foggy as it is. Several monsters have already sensed him and are heading in his direction. There appear to be plenty more beyond that group as well, their outlines vague and eerie. More monsters than should rightfully be in any one location.]

...a horrific afterlife? Is this my fate?

[Gasps in pain a couple of times as he tries to move. But his voice is hardened with determination.]

Then I'll endure my punishment.

[Kain struggles his weary self to stand. That's a monumental task and he barely has time to bring his spear up to defend against the first monster coming at him. He knows he won't last long... but when has that ever stopped him from giving it his all?]
[identity profile] dragoncursed.livejournal.com
[Reis is sitting on the roof of Troia castle enjoying the landscape when Zephyr first tears through the sky, shrieking with rage and grief. The sound is all too familiar, as it's how she feels about being separated from Beowulf. To the casual listener, it sounds as if a furious dragon is about rain down wrath and destruction on the nearest object in its path. Not entirely far from the truth. When the Storm Dragon alights near Reis, it's only to keen loudly at the sky, before taking to the air again to scream her fury. The Dragonkin stares after her erstwhile charge, trying to discern what has her so worked up, and where in the world her companion could have gotten himself to.]

[The video feed is dim at first, but a moment later, the area is illuminated. Mjrn's face appears, wary and frowning.]

Is this truly Gaia? I see no moogles, and this location is not familiar...yet, the Sky Phone seems to function.

[She pans around, revealing a maze of passageways that some know as the Devil's Road.]

I have searched for an exit, but none is present thus far. And....

[She trails off, silent for a few moments as she heads forward at a swift pace, then her eyes widen. The screen pans over to a large Myrrh tree.]

A...tree? Here? How--?

[There's a shuffling noise nearby, and and the Viera woman readies her spear. She has to set aside the Sky Phone and for the next few moments, the sounds of combat are all that's heard.]

[Cecil had wanted dearly to help with the rescue of the King of Figaro. Even if he did not know the man personally, he was a friend of Terra's. Seventeen years had not changed his friendship with the half-esper one bit, and he wanted to help her in any way he could.

But seventeen years of ruling had ingrained in him that, in most matters, duty came before personal feelings. Troia was so close to Pandaemonium, he would not risk abandoning his people -- or Rosa -- to Lufene's whims. So he had stayed.

Now the rescue is over, he is doing all he can to be of help to Terra and the others. In the spirit of its ruler, the city has thrown open its doors to the rescue party; castle servants willing to see to accomodation and their every needs, the sundries and equipment shops are temporarily offering their goods at steep discounts, and the King's Bounty Pub is giving free drink and other... attractions for any curious (or brave) enough to venture in.

Despite the hero's welcome the group receive, the town isn't all cheer. They're still very much on the alert for a retaliatory attack from Lufene, something that can be seen in the face of all the townspeople. Behind the smiles, everyone is on edge.]

((ooc: Slightly backdated. Basically, Cecil offered to Terra that the Pandaemonium group could stay in Troia to rest and regroup after the rescue attempt. Anyone interested in having their chars stop in Troia/any other characters in Troia at the time, tag in! Since that includes a loooot of people, this post can work as a mass interaction post, so feel free to make your own threads and mingle. GO CRAZY.))

[Reis is comfortably seated on the roof of Troia Castle, leaning against a large body that looks very much like it could belong to a dragon. However, her face is intent on the paper map laying in her lap that she just received from a passing moogle.]

So great are the changes to the face of this world, yet many of these names I know. I wonder if these be the great wonders of Ivalice or places from the worlds of others. How is it that so much could be the same between two places unrelated?

[Not long after this Reis curls up against Zephyr for a nap in the sun. It's not all that different from what they used to do in Figaro, save that Reis was once the larger of the two and more draconic. Still, some habits seem to die hard, as both of them are content to slumber while soaking up the sunlight.

Later in the day, she'll be out in the town, browsing the shops and satisfying her curiosity about the locale although she remains shy around most of the Humes.]

[Sailing above within the amber skies is a lone hawk in search of reprieve from the passing day. With night slowly approaching, the sun within the distance begins to set upon the Ruins of Midgar. The colors of orange and yellows dance about as the sun's fading shine descends beyond the mountains. With the hawk now fully out of view, the rustic horizon is all anyone can see as loud whistle rips through the howl of the whipping winds. This whistle is obviously caused by someone, but there's no one in view. The only thing anyone could see is the orange horizon and the swaying green grass.

Once the whistling ends, silence settles until someone decides to speak.]

I know not of how I’ve managed to cheat death this long, but I know that my quest has ended. Alma is saved, and my duty is done. The legacy wrought by the Zodiac Braves means naught else other than a fairytale, a fable told by those who seek diluted grandeur.

My days of strife are no more. Thus, I bid farewell to Ivalice for now and forever.

[Noting this as the end of his soliloquy, Ramza picks up another blade of grass and whistles into it. The whistle is carried by the far winds, stretching out over the land for miles and miles. It's a trick he learned from his father, it's a faint memory of his childhood, as well as a signal of his return to Gaia.]

[ooc: alright guys~! The last muse is finally here! Ondore, Edward, and Ramza are back into full swing again. I’ve missed you guys.]

[Today, Edgar is a busy man. First, a phone call, to one particular little girl who just happens to have summons at her beck and call. No, he doesn't want to talk to your father, he would rather speak with you directly, Eiko.]

[Second, he will climb to the roof to visit Reis. She's been wasting away again, and Edgar is not going to let her do that without a fight.]

[Third, once the rest is accomplished, he will make a broadcast from his office, an official-enough place that is less imposing than the throne room so as not to drive people away.]

I have something of an announcement to make, on behalf of the kingdom of Figaro.

Over the past few months, more and more children have arrived on Gaia without a protector, and many native Gaian children have seen their family and neighbors disappear before their eyes. I have acquired a large, empty building in the town of South Figaro that we plan to renovate extensively to provide a home for these children, a place where they can be assured of safety and security.

It will be run primarily by Terra Branford, but many children need many caretakers. If you are interested in either helping with the construction or at the facility after it is completed, please let me know in response to this message.

The world is changing around us, but together we can provide help for those in need.

[Kain is on a mountaintop somewhere, settled down next to Zephyr. He's been thinking over the things Matoya said, and still has no idea what to make of it.]

If going home was a choice, but it came at great cost to the worlds... I wonder how many would settle upon that option anyway...

At least we found out for certain that Mjrn indeed lives, but her return was not to this world.

[Filtered to Reis]

...How are you?

[Filtered to Edgar]

[It's been well over two months. But he's still anxious about doing this. He needs to, though, if he's to see Reis.]

I wonder if we could discuss the status of my exile from your kingdom.

[At some point in the middle of the day, Kain is once more seated out on the balcony near his room, watching Zephyr as she enjoys some flight/hunting time. The small dragon suddenly swoops downward, to catch some unsuspecting prey on the ground below.]

[Kain watches proudly for a moment, and then he turns to his own work. He's at least able to work on his breathing techniques out here. With all the time spent on it, he's gotten Fire mastered, and is now trying to see if he can handle another element.]
