...futile.

[Kain glares harshly into the screen.]

What use were our actions in the cycles of war, if that threat was destined to be reborn again? Will defeating Chaos now make any difference? Was it all in vain?

[Angry dragoon sounds especially angry by the end of that. Then his tone shifts to be much lighter by the time he switches it to a private transmission.]

[Private; Reis]

...I would see you, as soon as you're willing.

[Anyone could be forgiven for thinking there wasn't a forest full of the birds at the base of Mount Ordeals with how Porom's been jumping at every little sound and demanding to know if Ursula thinks it's a chocobo. Apparently, hearing that they're expected back soon only managed to make her fret more. Which is quite the achievement, considering how much she was fretting already. In fact, she's so busy wondering if non-chocobo-related sounds are chocobos that she almost manages to miss their actual return.

Almost.

It's probably a good thing that she managed to get some rest and that wearing herself out isn't an immediate danger anymore. Because, well. Doublecasting curaja before actually checking if anyone's injured.]

[The monkeyboy's got a couple of very important things to ask before this whole adventure begins. He looks more serious than has ever been seen on the network, save maybe the brief time after Dagger died. He really doesn't like that he has to do this, but he knows it's necessary.]

Hey, guys.

I, uh... [He puts a hand up to his head to scratch the back of his head, looking away from the camera for a moment before looking back.] I've got something to ask you. I guess it's a favor. I know it's not gonna be... real likely that we'll have to do anything but fight over there, but- Look, these guys are my family. I need to try and talk to them, especially Lufene. See if I can talk them out of doing anything - see if they can help us.

I've gotta try. If they can be saved, I've gotta try.

[Zidane goes silent for a minute, looking away again and looking perhaps more uncomfortable than any of them have ever seen him. It takes longer for him to start speaking again this time, and he stumbles over the words a little more as well.]

If... If it goes... bad. I know it could. I know it probably will. But, Garland... he...

Genomes don't... have their own souls. Garland, he... he made us all, and whatever souls we have, he gave to us. Even... even me. He didn't raise me - I never even knew about him until he and Kuja started messing with the world five years ago, and so I guess if any Genome's got his own soul, I do, but Garland still... He can still get to me. He's done it before. He tried to do it when I came back after the wars.

He might do it this time, too. If he does... stop me, okay? Just... do whatever you have to. It'll be better than living as his pawn.

[ Camera flickers on as a hand pulls away from it, the recorder filming as the ex-SOLDIER retreats from where he was asking someone manning a stand where he was. He had done a quick look over what he had on his person when he first arrived but it seemed that people were 'used' to people who didn't have a clue why they were there. As he almost walks away completely it's picked up by the person he was talking to before handed back to him. ]

You might need this. [ He looks down at the sky phone, brow arching a bit before giving her a nod. ] Thanks. [ He guesses before looking down at the sky phone and inspecting it briefly. He's sure it was on, for the most part or that's one of the moogles said when it had gone over it a little while ago before glancing around the public area he found himself in before moving away from being just repeatedly bumped into. ] I guess this happens a lot. [To say that Cecil is worried for Lilisette after her message would be a grave understatement, despite his apparently calm text response. More than once he's entertained the idea of amassing a group to storm Lufene's liar and rescue Lilisette, but his kneejerk reaction is tempered by experience. Lilisette seems to know what she's doing and the risks involved, and rash action on his part is going to endanger her perhaps moreso than leaving her be. He just has to trust her judgement and hope she'll be safe.

If nothing else, he's impressed by her courage. So he'll honour her wishes and let her stay with Lufene, despite every part of him wanting to rush to her aid. He can't quite disguise his worry, but he's mostly as calm and measured as possible when he makes this video post.]

I bring grave news. A trusted ally has managed to infiltrate the Chaos Shrine. From what information she has gained from Lufene there, Garland knows we are planning an attack. Now we lack the element of surprise, we must double our efforts in preparation for what is to come.

[Cecil sits back in his chair, a troubled frown crossing his expression.] I don't know how Garland obtained this information, when we've taken all measures to keep it secret. If anyone can shed any light on the matter... I believe it is vital we get to the bottom of this.

[Upon arriving, Rahal had been knocked out of sorts, and once he came to he still thought himself to be dreaming. He had been out on a training mission with the Iron Rams, to Garlaige Citadel. Perhaps the floor had given way? Was this some secret and long forgotten area of the Citadel, built long ago by the Ancients?

He had been in awe, until he was attacked. It was his first time to take to battle on his own in a while, but he found it remarkably easy. Perhaps his training was doing more for him than he knew. One thing he did know was that he had yet to best Rongelouts, and if he did not contact the Captain soon he would be facing a very angry moustached megalomaniac. That was dangerous for everyone's health.

But when he put his hand to his ear for his linkpearl, he found it missing. With a soft growl he nearly threw his shield in frustration. First he found he couldn't cast magic here, then he discovered his contact with the others was cut off. This day was shaping up well already.

Hearing a noise behind him, he turned to point his sword at the being following him.]

P-p-put that away, kupo! I come in peace, kupo. Peace!

[Rahal eyes the moogle warily for a moment before he frowns and lowers his blade, going as far as to sheath it for the time being.]

My apologies. Sneaking up on a Royal Knight is like to get you killed. In turn, a moogle has no place here. You should quit this place before harm comes to you.

Just doing my job, kupo! Here, these are for you, kupo.

[Rahal briefly glances down at the sky phone and the brochure, lifting a brow. Is this some new technology from Bastok that Rongelouts wishes to test on this mission? Who knew he had a friend moogle.]

You've my thanks. I can manage from here.

[The moogle hesitates for a moment before flying off, muttering something about sky people. Rahal could make heads nor tails of the brochure--he had opened it expecting to find modifications to his orders, but instead it seemed like a fairytale about another world entirely; what was the Captain thinking?--so he stuffed it into one of the pouches on his belt and looked to the sky phone.

Spending so much time with Bistillot, who loved to tinker with technology, made it easy enough for him to set up. Within moments the small knight was peering into the camera, making certain it was adjusted before he stood back.]

If you can hear me, this is Rahal S. Lebrart. I've misplaced my linkpearl, and seem to have wandered into an unknown area of the training grounds. You needn't send rescue; I'll rendezvous with the base camp as soon as I'm able. I'm not wounded, though magic seems restricted in this area.

[He pauses, putting a hand to his chin in thought.]

Captain Rongelouts, have you ever seen something like this before? In all I've read of the Ancients, I've never laid eyes on something of this sort. It's a sight to behold. Perhaps word should be sent to Jeuno to inform them of the discovery?

Should orders change, please contact me. Until then, may the Goddess watch over us all.

[Lilisette has been at the Chaos Shrine with Lufene for a while now. She's busied herself by reading a few of the books that Lufene has in her collection, and by speaking with the genome when she has the chance. Thus far Lufene's not been all that receptive, but Lilisette's in one piece, and she's been treated well.

And she's still not giving up on Lufene.

But she knows that there are those who are likely becoming aware that she's missing, especially Excenmille, and she doesn't want to alarm anyone. So she's doing what she probably should have done a few days ago--she's sending a text to a handful of those she trusts. If she asked Lufene to go back she's certain the genome would allow her to, but Lilisette knows what it's like to spend one's life alone and she wants to stick with Lufene for a while. Right now she can't keep her promise to Lilith, but she can at least be there for someone very much like her.]

Text to: Cecil, Excenmille, Mjrn, Rishfee, Vincent )

[In truth she's uncertain about whether she'll see them again or not. It's a thought that's kept her up some nights, but as she delves into another of Lufene's books she tries to push the thought from her mind. There's nothing to be done about it now, after all.]

[When the video first comes on, there isn't actually that much that can be seen, and there's a strange sound in the background. Then the darkness moves, revealing first what had apparently been an enormous paw, then a large black puppy staring at the Sky Phone curiously. His head is tilted to the side as he considers the device he's found. He nudges it several more times with a paw, then with his nose, pulling back each time to stare.

Finally, he seems to have decided that the Sky Phone isn't anything dangerous, because he picks it up and starts to carry it off. Ever wanted a close up view of the inside of a puppy's mouth? Because you're getting it.]

[Kain glares angrily into the screen. He'd wanted to make an announcement himself, but this isn't exactly how he'd thought it would be. Too late to do much about that though, with all the things he's been hearing.]

Say what you will about my sanity, but I won't tolerate a further word spoken against Reis. If I come upon anyone saying such things...

[There's a threatening wave of his spear, that ought to get his point across. After the threat is done, the anger is gone but his gaze is still intensely serious.]

She's a far better person than any others I've met, and her heritage should be respected. I'm proud to call her mine.

Greetings, citizens and friends of Gaia.

Good news! We have located the Chaos Shrine, Garland's hiding spot. Turns out that it was hidden right under our noses all along! It's in the middle of the Aerbs Mountains. I've sent airships to scout out the area, but unfortunately the area is so densely forested that it's impossible to land. The Shrine is well-hidden.

But it is accessible. Over the past few months, a few people have spotted Garland riding a flying gold chocobo and now we know why: chocobos are the only means by which the Chaos Shrine can be accessed. So we can't exactly send in an army... Gold chocobos are rare. But we can send a small group of the very best warriors, and that's exactly what I intend to do.

If you can ride a flying chocobo and wield a weapon strong enough to defeat Garland, I want to hear from you! I want a party assembled and ready by the 25th of this month. Chocobo training can be provided. Let's give it our very best shot.

- Cid Fabool IX, Regent of Lindblum

[ It had really been Lilisette's idea, and she had been instrumental in getting it all planned out and running. Rosa was grateful to the girl's diligence and cheer, willing to help out wherever needed. The courtyard of the castle was set up with decorations and refreshments, and tables and chairs had been set up as well, in case people wanted to sit down for a little bit. The castle was also being decorated, so people could also wander around if they wanted to as well.

For her part, Rosa had sent Cecil on set duties for the day, periodically checking up on him to be sure he was doing all right and to be sure he wasn't planning on going back before they were ready.

Eventually, everything was prepared, the guests were due to arrive shortly, and Rosa was on her way to fetch her husband. ]

[Excenmille's been reading up all about the situation Gaia faces on mooglenet, and from reading unfiltered posts here there and everywhere has been able to establish a loose knowledge of the myrrh trees, Lufene, Garland, and the spell. And as such, the kid has his target. And the arrogance to actually think he can find and defeat him. So. The post certainly has purpose, as misguided as it is.

...Also, it is accompanied by a background noise of a chocobo chick chirping contentedly. He is busy preparing a meal for it, mashing some unfortunate worms and carrots together into a thick, disgusting looking paste. It's a misconception chocobos are herbivores. Meat helps build strong bones. If anything, it's to be trained in San d'Orian fashion. No, to be molded. Into something strong, and very aggressive. Something that can be used in battle. Shame the poor thing is quite sweet natured and oblivious to this fact. To Excenmille, this little thing is not a pet. It's something that will become a formidable weapon with all care, all patience, and a hell of a lot of work.
]

Etoile, if you wouldn't mind waiting five minutes--

...
[Oh, it's recording. He resumes grinding the paste.]

This goes out to any that seek to oppose the sorcerer Garland. As the head of House Aurchiat, a long-standing great house of warriors, I entreat you to make yourselves known to me and to accept me into your ranks to fight beside you. The valour of my ancestors, and the honour of my house upon any world requires that I not remain idle in this matter.

[Cue a happy kweh, and the chocobo chick clambering into his lap and dunking it's head into the bowl of paste -- almost getting crushed while doing so.]

Etoile--!

[Though she had spent the last week preparing, and sleeping after the lack of it, Frimelda had still been busy. Partly, scouring every avenue availiable to her, in pursuit of something: and that hard work had paid of, the evidence of which was now in a satchel over her shoulder. A crystal chalice.

Whilst she had been able to purchase passage past Gizamaluke's Grotto by airship - after much persuasion - the pilot refused to approach the island and the outline that was presumably the Dragon, which, was probably the wisest move. Approaching from ground level was perhaps the best chance they had to reach the creature before it spotted them. The final leg of pursuing the myrrh tree and its guardian would be by boat, which she had also arranged.

All that remained now was to meet with her companions. In the early morning light, she kept watch on deck for the monster population in case they dared draw near to the seemingly easy moored target, her provisions for the fight ahead stashed onboard the vessel, but close to hand - there was no guarantee that the fight would not end up taking place on that very deck, afterall.]

[Leonora's still trying to understand the workings of the strange Whisperweed Phone, as she's come to think of it. King Edward's sort seems so much easier to manage than this device with all the buttons. It's been nearly two weeks since she left the Earth Crystal inside the shrine and she's still not yet returned to Troia, nor notified the custodians of the city as to her whereabouts. She should and knows this, yet can't seem to find the words to explain herself at all.

She's seated beneath a tree in Mysidia surrounded by a pile of books, and it takes her two or three attempts of opening and closing her mouth before she finally settles on what to say. Unfortunately, her attempts to filter the message just to the recipients in question have entirely failed.]

King Cecil. Queen Rosa... I... I'd like to speak with you. About Troia.

[Thinking that the message is secure and the device is off (how wrong she is!), Leonora tries her best to apply herself to studying while waiting for a reply. [Excenmille has realized something very, very important during the journey to Troia alongside Lilisette, and that something will probably remain with him for the rest of his days. What is it? It's the fact that airships are not. good. ideas. The young Count is feeling remarkably under the weather as a result of his journey-- too proud to show any fear when he boarded the strange mechanical thing; and now too stubborn, far too stubborn to admit that the whole experience has made him feel remarkably sick. So he merely treads alongside the dancer, an arm twisted up to rest a hand on the sheathe of his greatsword.

Yes, they've had to deal with a few monsters on the way. Nothing of worth though; one or two charges has generally either had them bolt or die. He knows that Lilisette is more than capable of fighting; but something ingrained into him won't allow her to- not while he's here. Maybe it's the root of chivalry -- the same kind his father displayed. He has little idea, and he doesn't really think on it all that much. Instead, he's merely trying his hardest to not vomit; the nausea from the airship ride not going away all that quickly.

Finally, the pair arrive in the city, and Excenmille merely gives it a tired glance -- staring back at the soldiers which of course stare at the dark-skinned child with pointy ears in full body armor.
]

...This must be it. I suggest that you rest yourself at the inn...

[The beach was in use today, a large section of it cordoned off for the wedding. Not long in the planning, it was still large - the number of friends and family that had to be invited wasn't just a drop in the bucket. Hanging ropes kept the number of benches and chairs that had been found for the occasion and set out in the sand from being knocked over by errant playtimes or rampaging pets, with a small stage set up before the seating where the wedding party would take place with a temporary arbor in back that had colorful flowers wound around it. The actual ceremony wouldn't take place until sunset, but there had been time allotted before and after for people to mingle, friends to greet each other, and generally have a good time.]
