[Leonora is hauled up in one of the numerous study rooms in Mysidia, surrounded by a pile of books and parchments. It's unlike her to get huffy but she is a tad frustrated by her research for the day. There's nothing but one minor and oblique reference to the spell that interests her in the Mysidian records, the Gaian tomes available speak of the magic, but don't provide any insight as to casting it other than extreme cautions that it's a very bad thing, and the moogles only squeak at her and run off when she tries to apply to them for information as well. There are no transciptions she can find, nor is there any indication that it's possible to learn by any other means. Why is this?]

Pardon me. I was wondering if there were any students of magic or scholars that might have some insight into this spell. I've found references to Ultima, but no information about learning it. Would anyone happen to have a transcription I could study?

[Poor dear really has no idea what a dangerous thing this is she's asking to learn.]

[Palom's looking a bit angry. Okay, I lied. He's a LOT angry. He's been pacing since he's heard these rumors, and while it's okay for people to talk about him, it's not okay for people to talk about Leonora.]

Look, everyone can say what they want about me - my tunic is not a dress, thank you, nor is it poofy - but you guys can leave Leonora out of this. She's too thoughtful and innocent to even take notice of these stupid rumors. If I so happen to hear anyone say anything bad about her-

Leave a nice girl out of it, got it? Or I'll find other uses for my magic besides roast meat.

[YES, HE'S DEFENDING HER HONOR.]

[Rinoa sounds absolutely exhausted. Almost like she's talking to herself, even, though she's not; she knows the phone is switched on but she's saying whatever comes to mind.]

We're going home.

Home... That's what it is now. I don't know if I ever used that word to describe Gaia, but... it feels right. I wonder if Squall thinks the same. We all chose to stay... Even though Selphie and Irvine aren't here. I talked to a lot of people who had to make choices like that. You never know what to say to them. But you know how it feels.

[She coughs. Rinoa's not in the best of health at the moment.]

So that's it. Matoya, she... That's what I was gonna say. I don't know how many people have already heard, but she's gone. I thought that I was giving it everything... All my power to fuel the portal. We all thought that. But she was doing most of the work and then it was like she just expired; she knew it was the end. She wanted to go.

Y'know, I think she would have told me off if I'd said that I wanted to save her. It's all up to the rest of us now, isn't it? I'll have to catch up, but I'm so tired... Hmm...

[Filtered to Zidane and Garnet]

So... About that invite to Alexandria. Does that still stand?

[Leonora's still trying to understand the workings of the strange Whisperweed Phone, as she's come to think of it. King Edward's sort seems so much easier to manage than this device with all the buttons. It's been nearly two weeks since she left the Earth Crystal inside the shrine and she's still not yet returned to Troia, nor notified the custodians of the city as to her whereabouts. She should and knows this, yet can't seem to find the words to explain herself at all.

She's seated beneath a tree in Mysidia surrounded by a pile of books, and it takes her two or three attempts of opening and closing her mouth before she finally settles on what to say. Unfortunately, her attempts to filter the message just to the recipients in question have entirely failed.]

King Cecil. Queen Rosa... I... I'd like to speak with you. About Troia.

[Thinking that the message is secure and the device is off (how wrong she is!), Leonora tries her best to apply herself to studying while waiting for a reply. Of course, her thoughts aren't anywhere close to the grimoire in her hands, and when they actually are, she makes her classic creepy faces while trying to master the magic being discussed.]

[Shortly after emerging from the Water Shrine, Rydia turns on her phone. She can't hide the exhaustion in her voice completely, but there are some things she needs to know.]

How did the other teams fare? Did you defeat your guardians? And...did you encounter Lufene, too?
[identity profile] stfuporom.livejournal.com
[The Water Shrine? Piece of cake. Except for them almost drowning. And the near-dying. And the fact that Edge was the tank in their party-

Ahem. Like he said, piece of cake. A little waterlogged, Palom strode off the airship looking pretty proud of himself. The crystal had been placed within the shrine. Mission accomplished. He was waiting outside where the rest of the airships were when he saw a few guards carry someone off one of the ships.

Who had blond hair. Who suspiciously looked like Leonora.

They were calling for a healer.

Forgetting about everything at that moment, Palom rushed forward to where the guards were only to have his fears confirmed. Muttering something about guards and their inability to be gentle with anything, Palom took Leonora's unconscious body into his arms, turning to call out over his shoulder.]

Porom!

[ Today is not a normal day. Rosa wakes up to an empty bed. Her first thought is that Cecil's up early, so she simply goes through her normal routine, washing up, getting dressed. Once she's finally ready, she begins searching for him, just to see how his morning is going so far. When she can't immediately find him is when she starts to worry, but it's early afternoon before she comes to any conclusive evidence that what she's feared has come to pass: Cecil is nowhere to be found.

It's not like him to leave without a trace. He would have told her, or left a note. Somehow, she would have found out. But no... nothing. There's nothing but emptiness.

So, once she's absolutely sure of what happened... she retires to her bedchambers again and readies a text to Gaia's population. ]

Cecil... Cecil has taken his leave of Gaia. I cannot find him. I will govern Troia in his place... as I did before.

[ She will remain in her bedchambers for the entire day, unless otherwise needed. Clearly, this means someone needs to come bug her. ]

[Leonora's seated in a guest room inside Lindblum Castle, looking quite distressed. More than her usual level of worryface she wears. Her head's down and the phone's cradled in her hands.]

I spoke with the Earth Crystal.

[More precisely, she tried to, and it took hours to get a response. She's still uncertain if it's the lack of the other Epopts, the displacement to another world, or if it's angry at her for abandoning her post in Troia for adventures on the moon.]

It is... angry. Angry and afraid.

[If Palom was uncharacteristically frantic about his sister's disappearance, Porom is uncharacteristically un-frantic.

And uncharacteristically un-anything, for that matter. Her tone is one usually reserved for reciting from history books.]

To those who had business with Palom of Mysidia, I apologize. He is no longer on Gaia.

Leonora, if you wish to continue your studies I will oversee for now, though I can only teach theory for- fairly obvious reasons. I'll make efforts to find a replacement as soon as possible.

...again, I apologize.

[And then the call cuts off very, very suddenly, the very second she's done talking.]

[If it would affect replies, she isn't going to be responding to anyone not named Leonora, Rosa or Ursula (if she was here, derp) for about 4-5 hours ICly. IT'S FOR THE BEST, YOU WOULD HAVE YOUR DEFENCE HALVED.]

[Vague apology is going to be vague, but that's how Kain does these things. He'll leave it public partially as an act of penance, partially because he's still readjusting to these devices and their filters. He isn't even sure that all of these people are here- he's been gone from Gaia for only a couple weeks, but to him it feels much, much longer. Don't worry Zidane, when he realizes you're not here, he'll bother you when you arrive.]

Cecil. Squall. Onion Knight. Bartz. Firion. Zidane. I apologize to all of you, especially.

I should also extend that apology to the other warriors of Cosmos as well.

I'm... sorry.

[He's still recovering, but he can't finish this without offering:]

...and if anyone has need for another fighter, I can be there at once.

Action in Troia )

[A while after, he'll be making a broadcast, appearing strained, but maintaining a semblance of strength despite that. He has to be strong, for his people and to wear out the current crisis.]

Those seeking refuge travelling from Mysidia to Troia, do not worry about provisions or lodgings. Troia will be doing all it can to accommodate as many refugees as possible. We've many empty buildings to spare, and those travelling through will receive full care and protection.

[He takes a deep breath. Now for a more personal announcement, though his tone remains brisk. Now isn't the time for personal grief; that will come once the crisis has passed. If he dwells on it now, it might crush him.]

My son is gone... Ceodore has left Gaia. Ursula is likewise missing. Are there any others unaccounted for?

[Private between Team Mage and Moonfamily]

Cecil, Rosa ...-Leonora, this is your choice, too.

The Mist Continent is overrun with monsters. Mysidia's walls will stand, hopefully, but many settlements are more vulnerable and seeking entrance to the walled cities is likely to prove difficult in the current state of emergency. Airship travel is just as limited, we can barely see the sky for all the winged creatures above, let alone travel in it.

With your permission, I wish to open the Devil's Road to escort those who cannot fight to safety. If it's too much of a risk then- I will find some other way.

[Public, a little later.]

I wish to arrange an immediate audience with any of the heads of the Forgotten Continent's cities. Please forgive my insolence in not going through the proper channels. This is an emergency.

Anyone outside of the walled cities wishing to evacuate the Mist Continent, travel to Mysidia immediately if you can safely. If you cannot, inform me - I will bring you here myself. You will be evacuated to Troia.

Please, everyone, be safe.

...are there any survivors in the Burmecia area?

[Night has fallen in the haunted village of Tida, with only the twin moons hovering overhead to shed any light into the empty streets. The phone turns on mid-conversation between a young priestess and a moogle that appears none to happy to be where he's at. They're situated beneath a myrrh tree, but that seems to be the least of the young woman's concerns.]

Like this?

That's right, kupo. Good luck!

W-wait! How did I get here? I don't understand.

Sorry, kupo. I don't like this place.

[Just like that, the moogle is gone, leaving Leonora to peer at the strange box in her hand with the disconcerting sounds of skeletons and abaddons shuffling and moaning in the dark. Before she can beg the creature to come back, one of the skeletons sneaks up behind her and she squeaks with fright, dropping the phone. All that can be seen are her voluminous robes while the audio feed picks up her frantic attempt at protecting herself.]

A... bony thing. An undead! That means, um.... Holy!
