Ring ring! Quistis, this hunk of armor would like to talk to you and maybe invite you someplace

After that Basch, bro would like to ask you some questions.
[identity profile] ultrawaves.livejournal.com
[There was something to be said for being able to fight on familiar ground. Quistis had been grateful for it in Dollet, but truth be told, even having spent time at the Tomb of the Unknown King before, she wasn't sure she could ever think of it as familiar. The sameness and general monotony of its architecture was far more confusing than not, even for her, and yet they steadily worked their way through towards the center of the maze, where she had been told the coveted myrrh tree would be standing.

A loud growl, belonging to a creature much, much larger than any of them could ever hope to be, sounded from not too far away. Proof that they were not alone. Of course, a Guardian had been expected.]

Is everyone ready?

((OOC: Sorry this is so late, everyone. It's been a month. I apologize. :/))

[Leonora is hauled up in one of the numerous study rooms in Mysidia, surrounded by a pile of books and parchments. It's unlike her to get huffy but she is a tad frustrated by her research for the day. There's nothing but one minor and oblique reference to the spell that interests her in the Mysidian records, the Gaian tomes available speak of the magic, but don't provide any insight as to casting it other than extreme cautions that it's a very bad thing, and the moogles only squeak at her and run off when she tries to apply to them for information as well. There are no transciptions she can find, nor is there any indication that it's possible to learn by any other means. Why is this?]

Pardon me. I was wondering if there were any students of magic or scholars that might have some insight into this spell. I've found references to Ultima, but no information about learning it. Would anyone happen to have a transcription I could study?

[Poor dear really has no idea what a dangerous thing this is she's asking to learn.]

[Quistis looks somber as she opens the video feed, already steeling herself for the guardian they're sure to meet at the next tree. Well, the last one was fairly painless, and she can only hope this round will go as smoothly.]

I heard a couple of the moogles talking about a tree at the Tomb of the Unknown King, complete with the now-standard-issue creature guarding it. I'd like to leave to collect it as soon as possible. Rinoa, Zell, I know I can count on the two of you to come. Squall, Ellone? How about you?

[Raine's struggling to juggle the phone and an unhappy baby at the same time. She looks pretty worn and tired, and little Brooke is gnawing on her fingers with miserable whines. Mom's at wits' end and finally resorts to checking on the network for advice. This is new territory for her and she's at a loss what to do.]

I think she's teething, but nothing I've tried seems to be helping.

[After another soft whimper from the little one, Raine pulls her closer and rubs her back. Teething woes aren't really all that's eating at her. It's the looming prospect of her husband going off on another volunteering to help job. The last time he took on one of these away from home, he didn't make it back.]

How long will that trip with the chocobos take, do you think?
[identity profile] livelyangel.livejournal.com
[Rinoa sounds absolutely exhausted. Almost like she's talking to herself, even, though she's not; she knows the phone is switched on but she's saying whatever comes to mind.]

We're going home.

Home... That's what it is now. I don't know if I ever used that word to describe Gaia, but... it feels right. I wonder if Squall thinks the same. We all chose to stay... Even though Selphie and Irvine aren't here. I talked to a lot of people who had to make choices like that. You never know what to say to them. But you know how it feels.

[She coughs. Rinoa's not in the best of health at the moment.]

So that's it. Matoya, she... That's what I was gonna say. I don't know how many people have already heard, but she's gone. I thought that I was giving it everything... All my power to fuel the portal. We all thought that. But she was doing most of the work and then it was like she just expired; she knew it was the end. She wanted to go.

Y'know, I think she would have told me off if I'd said that I wanted to save her. It's all up to the rest of us now, isn't it? I'll have to catch up, but I'm so tired... Hmm...

[Filtered to Zidane and Garnet]

So... About that invite to Alexandria. Does that still stand?

[No video. Because he's absolutely not crying and you totally can't hear it in his voice.]

Portal's closed. If you wanted to go through it- [And then that not-sobbing is replaced very suddenly with aggression and forced anger.] -sucks to be you, doesn't it?! Be less late next time!

[And then the sound cuts off with a loud huff.

Later, once he's had a chance to calm down, a filtered voice post goes out to Refia and Ignus]

...there were two people, weren't there? They were old. And powerful. And I- you- we- [This is confusing. And he's still just a little too upset to figure out semantics.] -they were killed, weren't they?
[identity profile] ultrawaves.livejournal.com
[Though they've gotten a bit of a late start, Quistis feels it was worth it to wait so as not to have to run reconnaissance on her own. Having collected Zell from Lindblum and explained the situation to him on the way, Garden made a quick stop by Alfitaria just long enough to make off with its ruler, much to the chagrin of his Selkie aids. Now, having reached their destination of the beach in Dollet, Quistis frowns as she eyes the broadcast tower in the distance.]

I did a bit of homework before I left; the myrrh tree should be at the top of the tower. It's safe to say that we can expect it to have a guardian, like so many of the others. Are you two prepared?
[identity profile] differentxbeat.livejournal.com
[Only a few moments passed after the moogle had left Zell all by his lonesome, this was a lot for him to take in all at once.  All of these names and places thrown at him were so foreign.  Something had slipped his mind completely, however.  When he came to, his fingers were wrapped tightly around something in the palm of his hand.  A mini-Queen Brahne doll.  To him, it could just be some child's toy that ended up in his posession.  He decided to tuck it away into his back pocket for the time being.]

Lindblum..what the hell does that even mean!?

[His temper began to flare for a brief moment, even the name of this city he had awoken in was outlandish in itself.  Either way, he collected himself and took out the device that the moogle had given to him.  Before flicking the monitor on, he teased his hair a bit, making sure everything was perfect and in place before flashing himself a cocky little smile in his reflection.  The screen began to flicker, and sure enough it did everything the moogle said it would do.]

Uhm, h-hey!  So uh, I'm not so great at this sort of thing.  This is Zell Dinct..i'm a SeeD!  You guys know about SeeDs, right!?  If anyone's there, you gotta let me know!
[identity profile] ultrawaves.livejournal.com
I've been doing my research, and it appears there's a myrrh tree in Dollet. Since Rinoa has left the chalice in my care for the time being, I would like to go investigate. I know the area well, so navigation shouldn't be a problem. Regardless, I don't think it's wise to go alone, especially since Terra mentioned the tree in Figaro having a potential guardian. Would anyone be interested in accompanying me?
[identity profile] lionsguard.livejournal.com
[ The feed opens rather abruptly to that familiar pitch blackness that can only ever be caused by a wayward hand or paw. A most unpleasant sort of static follows, effectively muffling the words of whoever is speaking over the course of the next twenty seconds. Within that time, the paw obscuring the Skyphone's camera shifts and prompts a burst of color that whorls for a moment as a result of the phone's subsequent movement, then comes to an abrupt halt with only a single digit cutting a corner of the image from view. Anyone familiar with the streets of Lindblum's business district may very well recognize the structures in the background and the sounds that come with it; though, they are somewhat dim compared to the voice that cuts through the static with a single word. ]

Lindblum.

[ That the name comes so easily to the unseen speaker causes one of the moogles to literally stop in his tracks in view of the camera, his pompom bobbing from the force with which he does. The static begins its recession and the voice becomes clearer, strong yet feminine and somewhat... different, if you happen to know its owner, in that it does not carry its usual force. ]

That's right, kupo! This is Lindblum, but how did you know? I don't think we said --

Gaia then.

[ It is said with some finality, but none of the emotion that might be expected to accompany such a realization. There is no anger, no frustration, no joy, no relief to be heard. In their place is simply acknowledgment. Nothing more, nothing less. The moogle currently in view turns his head with an expression of hopeless bewilderment toward the camera. Another voice cuts through the hustle and bustle of the business district now, most likely that of the moogle holding the Skyphone. ]

Nevermind that, kupo! She needs medical attention right away! Just look at those injuries! Go get help, kupo!

O-okay, kupo!

[ And off runs the moogle as fast as he can, quickly vanishing from sight. For a moment, the street is all that can be seen and heard, and then -- ]

Please sit down, kupo! He'll be back soon with a healer, but it'd be bad if you fainted before he got here. So please, kupo!

Is that a Skyphone?

[ What immediately follows is more of that unpleasant static, which effectively masks the exact words being exchanged. If the tone of the moogle's voice is any indication, though, the woman either isn't hearing her or isn't complying one and the moogle is becoming quite upset for it. A short burst of static, possibly resulting from a sigh, precedes a sudden whorl of color. When it stops, it is obvious that the device now rests in the hands of a human woman -- blond, her hair styled in the fashion of an age long since passed, with amber eyes and a face not unpleasant to look at should one look past the blood and dirt that stains her right cheek. What's more is the bruising along the right side of her temple and neck and what blood seems to be trickling down the latter from behind her right ear; and yet, she stands straight and seemingly composed, unfaltering as she regards the camera. If she is in pain, she does not show it, the knight's resolve now visible in her eyes and audible through her voice despite something of her earlier tone that lingers. ]

I am Agrias Oaks, captain of the Lionsguard of Ivalice. I would have the aid of any willing to offer it in exchange for my gratitude. 'T was... unexpected, this turn of events. [ And that is all she will say upon that matter, her fingers seeking the appropriate buttons to end the feed. Having ended the video, she turns just so and gazes for a long moment in the direction she had been looking upon arrival. Although she says nothing, the fingers of the hand at her side curl silently into a fist for her memory of the vision that had greeted her before she opened her eyes to Lindblum. It's only when the moogle implores her to sit again that she seems to snap out of it; though, her thoughts continue to linger elsewhere as she stands resolute. Was it truly...? ]

[Rinoa]

[After speaking to Minwu, Rinoa has a few people to call. Ellone and Marlene, there are calls for both of you! Also Seifer - Rinoa wants to know how you're doing.

That done, Rinoa starts packing. She asks Squall to come and meet her in her room. She'll also be looking for Quistis at some point. Anyone else in Galbadia Garden is free to bump into her. Rinoa wouldn't leave without saying goodbye.]

[Tifa]

[Poor Tifa is about to get a surprise from a certain miniature Sorceress-in-training. And today was such a relatively peaceful day for her. She's enjoying a coffee break in the living room, sitting on the couch with Ruby purring in her lap.]

[Noah is not a little hung-over when he visits Garden at noon to visit a certain instructor (or former instructor), though he's had some time to sleep it off and is hiding it well. Still, the bright sun makes head throb and he is still debating whether or not to thank Baltheir for the best birthday he's had in years or to bash the boy's head into a wall for convincing him to get this ridiculously drunk.

And that still doesn't explain the wads of Gil and the note to come back and work at a casino that are stuffed in his pocket.

He manages to straighten up and look presentable, and even though he deems it unnecessary for anyone to get him a gift on his birthday, he still as one for Quistis.

He goes in and snags a SeeD by the collar.]

I would like to see Miss Trepe, if you please.

Happy birthday! I have a gift for you, but I'm afraid it can't be sent via moogle. Will you be free to meet in the near future?

[ Larsa looks as composed as he always does, although perhaps a bit tired. Things were…very hectic, after the Lunar Cry. He's been installed as of late as head of state in Narshe, since Ursula and Ceodore were not available; this was at Regent Cid's request. ]

If I hadn't seen it myself, I don't think I'd have believed that such destruction could come from the moon like that.

However, I have seen great destruction before, and I had not wanted to believe it would come to pass. That was…prevented, in part, though I lament that this could not be.

I am using all the available resources I have been granted access to here in Narshe to aid those that need it. Please, if there is anything that I can do, do not hesitate to let me know. I am not much of a fighter, but I am more than capable of providing aid in other areas. Know that my doors are as open as I can manage.

[ If you are in Narshe and would like action, you will find Larsa - somehow he has managed to once again elude all attempts at an escort following him - simply out in the city, looking around, trying to familiarize himself a bit more than he's had time to do yet. TAKE HIM SIGHT-SEEING if you wish! ]

[The video feed switches on to show two emerald eyes peering at it. Wide curious eyes blink when it seems that the PHS is working, and the face pulls away to show the accomplished smile on a young woman’s face.]

There! It looks like I got it working teehee!

I had a cute little moogle explaining to me what happened, but as nice as it is to be here, I really should be getting back to my world.

[Aerith falls quiet for a moment, but her smile never fades from her expression.]

I don’t suppose that anyone knows how to do that~? [She smiles fondly at the screen. It's obvious in the background that she's out the front of a church.] While this little church is nice, it's not my church and I really should return to tend to them.

[No she is totally not using this as an excuse to distract herself why would you even think that.]

I- apologize. In my time away from Gaia, it- slipped my mind that this information might be of use. The message left by the - Selkies? - reminded me. It- concerns the crystals.

The crystals exist in every world. The ones that have been brought here could be from any one of them, even a world that none of us represent - or from all of them at once. They- can exist in other forms. If what has been said in response to the Selkies' message is to be believed then that - Life Stream? Something like that - is one of those forms. It's possible there are others.

The crystals are an embodiment of knowledge. At birth, they grant us all the ability to form ideas. Throughout our lives, they keep record of our every thought and memory. And when we die, they reclaim the gift they gave us at birth. The thoughts they keep record of sustain them and the worlds upon which they exist, acting as the source of magic and life.

...even if a world is destroyed entirely, its crystals remain as a record of all that once existed.

-this is probably a great deal to take in. I won't blame anyone who doubts me. If anyone has questions- I can't guarantee I can answer them. But I will do my best.

[A blond young man with a scar across his face is leaning in towards the screen, fiddling with it before stepping back and gripping the handle of his gunblade tightly in one hand, with a... fishing rod?... in the other. The phone seems to be propped up on a rock, as he is seen stepping back and the camera captures the seen at a slightly slantwise angle.

He glances back at the screen ever so often, even as he is fighting off the swarm of monsters, many of them Gaylas, an irritant he seems to be well accustomed to. He slices with his sword while flailing with the rod, seemingly using it as a bludgeoning tool, and had you not seen it in the video feed, you would not believe it.

He glares at the camera, obviously somewhat aware of what had happened to cause such a mass outbreak of monsters.]

I don't know who the hell you managed to piss off this time, Ice Princess, but HYNE-DAMN IT, Leonhart! This! [He gestures widely at the swarm of monsters] is NOT MY BLOODY FAULT this time!

[Seemingly tired of the onslaught, and done with shouting at the video, Seifer tosses up his gunblade with a whirl, punches out as mass of flame that appears to be the spell Firaga, before neatly catching Hyperion on its return trip down and lunging forward into the fray of half-charred monsters.]

[It's a short text, the sender's number and information surpressed.]

For those of you who are of the acquaintance of Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg, this is simply a missive to inform you that his birthday is the seventeenth of this month. He would likely not mention it himself, but I know he would be touched if those who know him took the time time to give him their appreciation. That is all.

[The text is done, but the line still seems open in the event anyone desires to discuss something pertaining to to topic. Possibly gift ideas or any such musings.]
