[So Rinoa is here like she promised, to visit Zidane and Garnet. She's still not popular in Alexandria and this is obvious from the suspicious way the guards treat her, but they're under orders and they escort her into the castle to meet the king and queen. It's all a bit more formal than she'd hoped. Where are they?]

[Mikoto has also promised to visit the royal couple and so on a different day she too arrives, feeling a little overwhelmed by the size of the city compared to her village, although she does a good job of not showing it. She's definitely curious to see her niece. The idea of having an addition to the family is strange to her, but it's not unpleasant. She's sure Amber will be much better company than Lufene anyway.]

[Leonora is hauled up in one of the numerous study rooms in Mysidia, surrounded by a pile of books and parchments. It's unlike her to get huffy but she is a tad frustrated by her research for the day. There's nothing but one minor and oblique reference to the spell that interests her in the Mysidian records, the Gaian tomes available speak of the magic, but don't provide any insight as to casting it other than extreme cautions that it's a very bad thing, and the moogles only squeak at her and run off when she tries to apply to them for information as well. There are no transciptions she can find, nor is there any indication that it's possible to learn by any other means. Why is this?]

Pardon me. I was wondering if there were any students of magic or scholars that might have some insight into this spell. I've found references to Ultima, but no information about learning it. Would anyone happen to have a transcription I could study?

[Despite the fact that he's been awake for several hours now on very little sleep, Zidane has never looked more excited or more happy at the same time. His clothes are a half-pulled on mess and his hair is falling out of its tie, but for once he could care less about that as he grins at the small bundle of blanket in his arms.]

Guys! Everyone! Dagger had the baby! She's doing great, she came through it fine, Rosa was the best help ever, and-

[The moogle holding the sky phone, chuckling a little, zooms in on the baby's face, which is about all that can be seen of the newborn. The baby is sleeping, so the color of her eyes can't be seen, but a couple straggling wisps of blonde trail out from under the blanket, brushing just over the glossy bump right in the middle of her forehead that's so very small. Zidane's voice gets more quiet, as though trying not to wake his firstborn up.]

This is Amber. Amber Jayne Tribal - Amber til Alexandros the First, but not for a long time. Isn't she beautiful?

[His finger brushes her cheek softly, almost in wonder, a smile starting to spread across his face as he watches her.]

[Normally Penelo is content to live and let live, but with all the comings and goings of her friends lately, and the barrage of monsters falling from the moon, she's feeling more proactive about the world around her. Especially after some other posts on the network that have had her thinking. Her post is more of a general ramble while she sorts out thoughts rather than any one cohesive question.]

I wonder... Fran, what do you remember about legends about Crystals or anything about Mist? Those Selkies mentioned having a Great Crystal. That can't be the same one that was in Giruvegan, can it? And none of our Crystals recorded memories or anything like that, did they? Porom mentioned that. Hmm. There was that one Orb of Minwu that turned up in the auction. Wasn't that supposed to hold someone's soul? I just... I don't know. I feel like there's a connection somehow but I just can't see what it is. It's just so strange that other worlds have Great Crystals, or Mist, or Espers. Maybe it has something to do with a Rift.

There's something there. I'm just sure of it.

It's quite simple, really. The reason why we keep getting shifted back and forth between the worlds is us.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've gathered, the Iifa Tree filters out the souls that have returned to Gaia, correct? The reason everyone keeps returning is that we're not a part of Gaia. We're just visitors. We're not native to her.

The same thing happened on my planet. The phantoms came, and the only way we could remove them from hurting the planet's spirit was to turn them native. That's what we have to do. We have to somehow trick Gaia into thinking that we're native to her, thusly ending the cycle, because there wouldn't be anything to switch.

[She sighs.] But I haven't thought of a way to do such yet...

[ Zack turns the camera right side up and manages it better. His face is there, smiling apologetically. He looks a bit harried. ]

A-anyway, I don't know how safe this is to use, but...look, the moogle explained what happened. R And then gave me this weird bell! [ He holds it up and rings it, looking confused about why he even has it. ]

[The first thing to be seen on the screen is a... tail? That's right, a tail, long and currently waving lazily around with small flicks here and there. What might at first be mistaken for an animal is quickly proved to be sentient when the "mute" is taken off as the moogle starts to zoom up towards the person's head, from behind and to the right.]

Yes! You and Queen Gar-

-Garnet? ...Dagger! Yeah, that's right! Gonna need to get used to that...

[With some help from the moogle, the genome spins around, grinning and holding a curiously shaped orange crystal that might be familiar to a few friends - old and new alike.]

Hey guys!

[And that grin gets even wider as he thrusts the crystal in the air, much like one of his daggers after a fight.]

Man, I really don't know what's up with me. I just feel so listless. Not even writing seems to be getting me out of this slump.

The black mage child Vie has been taken. Some of the Genomes we rescued have also vanished. Even the Viera have reported that a few of their number are lost. They say the sky is changing.

Garland's work has undone our lives and flung all into chaos. You Sky People who step into other realms may bring back something of your homes, but you are leeching Gaia's spirit in the process.

We are all doomed.

[ When the feed begins, it finds a very somber looking Queen Garnet. She has the look to here of a bringer of bad news. Her eyes, and the space beneath them, are both darkened, a downward turn of pale lips. When she speaks, her voice is soft, even... Though not strong. ]

Citizens and friends of Alexandria. It is with much sorrow, that I must speak to you this day. Zidane Tribal, by no will of his own, has taken leave of Gaia. Where he has gone to, we cannot be certain... But pray for his safety, wherever he may be.

[after her announcement, she goes to sit quietly in her room. There, she sings their song softly to herself. She has no tears left to shed.]

[the video feed clicks on with the sound of a moogle mid-sentence, a sky covered with pyreflies only being visible at this moment in time.] - you understand all that, kupo?

[there's a soft crunching sound as the moogle totters off, mumbling something about the recipient of the sky phone being a fast learner. after a couple of seconds of silence, the holder of the phone moves a few paces, the sky being replaced by the ruins of Zanarkand behind her, before holding it up so she is finally being recorded.]

It feels like I've been asleep for a long time.

[it takes Serah a few seconds to build up the strength to ask. this is her one shot.] .... Snow? Lightning? Are you there?

[Suffice to say, that's one interesting letter that Sabin's received from a curious looking moogle. Trying to strike a conversation with the little fellow didn't get too far as the little bugger ran far too fast and considering that Sabin's trying to get used to some of the Gaian equipment to better enhance his training. Slight discomforts aside however, Sabin is looking quite baffled in the video feed. He's holding a pink envelope in his hand and while the letter is much like something that Edgar would've penned as a prank, he'd assured by his elder brother that he wasn't at fault in this little mystery.

Sabin cleans his throat before speaking, a serious look settling in place of the baffled one.]

Mikoto? I believe you and I need to... discuss something of the utmost importance. Could you possibly spare a few moments.

[And no, this is most certainly no filtered. Filters? Sabin's not in the mood for filters.]

[A blonde woman makes an appearance on the screen holding a familiar crystal in her hand. She holds it up, turning it from side to side. Behind her is the backdrop of a throne room, dark and eerie, as if it raised from the very pits of Hell itself. She's enthroned in state, although her mouth is set in a bored, sulky pout.]

It's not a very pretty thing is it? Hmm, well it does reflect my face nicely, I'll give it that. Still, not terribly impressed. I wonder what in the world anyone would want this trash for.

[She drops the Fire Crystal nonchalantly and it skitters across the floor. Tired of that object, Lufene starts an inspection of her nails.]

Someone really is lacking in taste in interior design. I could do this so much better. Boring here too. It's not nice of Kuja to let me win our bet. Oh well.

[The screen flickers on and Cloud sets the sky phone down on a table, obviously not at home, considering the dull roar of noise around him. He's found a pub within Luca and he's settled himself in the darkest corner.]

Does... anyone have a plan to deal with Garland? [He's keeping his voice low, though he never really raises it anyway.]

If he's going to the Chaos Shrine, then... he'll become Chaos, the God of Discord, if he can. Gaia won't withstand that, especially without Cosmos to fend him off as well. Has anyone planned to hunt him?

If... if anyone is set on going after him, I'm coming too. I didn't fight in the Void just to see him come back here. [Is that determination in Cloud's voice? Why, yes. Yes it is.]

Firion, Terra... Tidus? Squall? You'll fight too right? Warrior of Light... Bartz? We can't just let this happen again... even if we haven't got Cosmos' help.

[He frowns, opening his mouth to speak again, but he stops a second later and goes to another thought instead.]

Lightning...? I haven't heard you around recently. Tifa said you came back at the Iifa Tree too... [Cloud code words for 'please contact me before I worry myself to death'. With a small sigh, he cuts the feed.]

[Later on; Cloud is sat on the end of his and Tifa's bed. He's ready to sleep already, just in a pair of pants he finds comfortable to sleep in. Lifting his gaze to his fiancee, he frowns a little.]

I... got a job today. [Victory fanfare for Cloud!] I'll be helping move shipments from the docks to the Blitzball Stadium. It's not... great, but...

[He shrugs a little.]

[Look who's back! Regent Cid is sitting on his throne with Mikoto perched on the step beside him.]

Greetings! I am delighted to announce that the party who journeyed into Terra have returned! I'm sure that each one will be telling their own stories, but if you could recount the main points, Mikoto... Both good and bad.

[Mikoto nods, facing the camera as she speaks.]

Terra was a desolate wasteland, as we expected. But it was not abandoned... We found new Genomes there, as well as those who had been kidnapped by Kuja. They have all safely returned with us, and I shall take them back to the village.

We encountered Garland in Pandemonium, but were unable to defeat him... Kuja is no longer Garland's only puppet. He has created a new Angel of Death, Lufene, who told us that he has gone to the Chaos Shrine.

We fought Lufene in Bran Bal, but before we were able to defeat her, she absorbed power from a triad of magical statues and we were forced to flee. Serah and Genesis were killed in the battle. The last we saw of Terra, it was being utterly destroyed by Lufene. I do not believe that it is possible to return there now. The rest of us were lucky to escape with our lives.

[There's a pause as Mikoto stops abruptly. Cid steps forward to sweep an arm around her shoulder. Mikoto doesn't look like she appreciates this.]

You weren't lucky, Mikoto. You were magnificent. Garland may not be gone, but we've learned a lot. We must make plans for our next step, but for now: a feast! You deserve it! I would also like to take this opportunity to invite all those who have returned from Terra to the Festival of the Hunt tomorrow. You've arrived just in time.

[The group are on their way back to Bran Bal, with several Genomes and possibly a few sheep in tow. They're in better shape now than they were before, thanks to the supplies they found on the farm, their success in locating the lost Genomes, and Mikoto finding her soul again.

But they didn't manage to defeat Garland. Now their only hope is to confront Lufene again. Perhaps she will know what became of him.

Mikoto is sitting by the fire once again, but she's keeping a close eye on the new Genomes. Although they're conditioned to obey, they're also conditioned to take care of Bran Bal, which means they're liable to wandering off. They have to be herded together rather like sheep. Looking out for them isn't going to be easy.]
