I, uh... [He puts a hand up to his head to scratch the back of his head, looking away from the camera for a moment before looking back.] I've got something to ask you. I guess it's a favor. I know it's not gonna be... real likely that we'll have to do anything but fight over there, but- Look, these guys are my family. I need to try and talk to them, especially Lufene. See if I can talk them out of doing anything - see if they can help us.
I've gotta try. If they can be saved, I've gotta try.
[Zidane goes silent for a minute, looking away again and looking perhaps more uncomfortable than any of them have ever seen him. It takes longer for him to start speaking again this time, and he stumbles over the words a little more as well.]
If... If it goes... bad. I know it could. I know it probably will. But, Garland... he...
Genomes don't... have their own souls. Garland, he... he made us all, and whatever souls we have, he gave to us. Even... even me. He didn't raise me - I never even knew about him until he and Kuja started messing with the world five years ago, and so I guess if any Genome's got his own soul, I do, but Garland still... He can still get to me. He's done it before. He tried to do it when I came back after the wars.
He might do it this time, too. If he does... stop me, okay? Just... do whatever you have to. It'll be better than living as his pawn.

He also understands about the Genomes -- they're just like the Maenads, manufactured and bound to the will of the Creator. Uncannily similar, even. They had all been family, and had all given their lives to destroy their 'father'.
Cecil also understands about friends asking to be stopped. Just like Edge had agreed to kill Kain, if he ever lost his mind before Zeromus' defeat. It makes Cecil feel old, that none of this is a new experience. But when he speaks, it is with determination.]
Should anything like that happen, all we need do is release you from Garland's grasp. I won't harm you unless I absolutely must.
