It's times like these that I can't help but wonder how people are back home. I find myself missing Biyaada, among others. It's difficult when trying not to think about it. Even the changes in scenery aren't helping.

[Bartz doesn't talk for a few seconds, as if he forgot what the skyphone was for the second he turned it on.]

...guess nobody else can get hold of Faris either, huh?

First he's here, then he's not. Then again. And again. Gaia's got an odd sense of humour sometimes, doesn't it?

[He looks around, trying to brighten up.]

Heh, or maybe even Gaia just can't keep her in one place.

Hey, buddy. With the long name. Rug-something- oh man, I know what it is but- this is gonna be bugging me all day. You in Narshe yet? Just arrived, kinda a mess here. Gonna see if I can help out. Might not be all too smart but I don't need the ol' brain too much to carry rocks.
[identity profile] trinitycrusades.livejournal.com
[After Ceodore's message and Rydia picking them up in the Lunar Whale, Cecil and Rosa arrived in Narshe as quickly as they could. Already a number of people who had volunteered to help have arrived. The townspeople have barred them from entering the mines just yet, however, saying that until the tunnel walls and roof around the area of the cave-in were braced to prevent further collapse, digging could mean the rescuers could get buried along with their rescuees.

It's frustrating to be made to wait. But even as a father worried sick for his only son and the daughter of his closest friend, he has to stay rational and concede that yes, Narshe is a mining community, and yes, the townspeople know exactly how to cope with these disasters. Dashing in with no regards for how to handle the situation will cost lives.

Once a sizable number for the rescue have arrived, both of townspeople and those who had travelled to Narshe to help, Cecil gathers the group to organise everyone.]

Once we can begin, we'll split into two groups. Anyone strong of arm enough to help with the digging and carrying out the wounded will come with me. Healers or those with healing supplies will stay out here. It's too risky for you to enter the mines, so the wounded will be brought to you.

[And yes, he's giving Rosa a very fixed look as he says that. Worried to death about her baby though she may be, he won't let her in the cave when there's a risk of another earthquake at any moment. Not just out of concern for his wife, but for practical reasons too -- a healer who is injured or worse is a useless one.]

If there are no questions, we'll begin as soon as possible. Please be prepared.

((ooc: ...Because I forgot to mention! herp derp. This log will initially work as another mass interaction post before the rescue, then there will be a thread for the rescue itself. Healers, feel free to make your own thread while the rescue takes place.))

[Reception inside the mines has never been ideal in the first place. Now with the earthquake collapsing one of the main shafts and cluttering the pathways with debris, the phones are barely working, but it's vital to get a message out. It's full of static and broken:]

There's been a minor earthquake in Narshe that's caused a mine cave in. Approximately 200 people are trapped inside. Outside conditions are unknown to us at this time, but we ask for any able bodied souls to help with the rescue effort.

[Sorry, Parents, but Ceodore's more concerned for the people trapped in here with him than sending any warm reassurances about himself.]

((ooc: For the sake of legibility, I didn't blur out half the message with dashes, but please feel free to assume the content is broken and somewhat hard to understand, dropping out in places. Feel free to threadjack and/or tag around to organize any rescue attempts.))

[Rishfee, above anything else looks unharmed, but tired. Very tired. He's in the Mire again, making good on the qijirn's assumption that he will destroy whatever has reduced the settlement of Nashmau's population so drastically. But it's starting to take a toll on him- the Mire is full of dangers which do not see him as anything but a food source.]

Vincent. Skyserpent Rughadjeen. Lady Eiko.
How are things?

...

[Filtered to Captain Steiner.]

Hello again. I apologize for interuppting your affairs, though I would like to ask some questions, if I may. It concerns what we spoke of previously, the lamia in the region of Caedarva Mire. Within the depths of Caedarva, there is a small settlement named Nashmau. It is merely a settlement and cannot even be called a town. Yet recently, people and some qijirn have disappeared from it. The remaining qijirn inside Nashmau believe it is the work of the ghosts in the Mire, though investigation has proved their thoughts upon the matter to be incorrect.

Therefore, I come to you- for I believe your soldiers and yourself police the neighbouring city of Alexandria, and because of the fact you know of the creatures I speak of. I have reason to believe this is the work of the lamia within Caedarva Mire, or the Qutrub. Your answer will allow me to investigate further. Have any of your populace vanished after nightfall?
[identity profile] immortal-lion.livejournal.com
..It is funny.

There is documentation within the staging point that Nareema had stolen from the Hazhalm testing grounds. It regards both the Immortals as a unit, and our creation. The Lamiae were originally hume soldiers. They were chosen to recieve monster appendage grafts to perform their role as chimerae. Needless to say, the procedure didn't go as expected.

[He begins to read, casting his gaze down and translating easily.]

A fire to fight a fire...
A thief to catch a thief...
A beast to kill a beast...

So reads the Scriptures of the departed first emperor of the Majaab dynasty and the hero of Aht Urhgan, Balrahn.

Emperor Balrahn, was shocked by the futility of his veteran palace guards and mages in the face of a chimera rebellion--an incident in which his son, the crown prince, was assassinated by the Lamiae which broke free from servitude.

The alchemists responsible for creating the chimerae organic weapons were charged with discovering a means to defeat them. They eventually came to the conclusion that the guards themselves had to become monsters to stand a chance at victory. Without delay, the most loyal and physically sound members of the palace guard were chosen to be the subjects. However, the initial attempts to graft beastly appendages ended in disaster. One subject’s face erupted in a mass of thrashing feelers. Another was transformed into a horrific mound of quivering flesh. Even if rejection of the transplants was somehow overcome, the subject’s blood was eventually tainted by the blood of the monster.

There was one survivor. A hume male; Raubahn. One of the most loyal of the palace guards, and one stationed to watch the Crown Prince.

[And he focuses the camera to the pages, taking a soultrapper photograph from them and holding it to the camera. The image, of course, is horrific.]

...This is the Captain Raubahn. His true form, anyway. He is capable of maintaining illusion around himself; so all that meet him see him as nothing more than a simple hume. I apologize for the longwindedness of this, though there is another fact that is quite interesting. Allow me to read on.

In a final attempt, the alchemists devised a brutal new technique utilizing the power of magic that fused the essence of a creature directly to the mortal spirit. Thus the Immortals Rishfee and Amnaf were created. Rishfee and Amnaf both possess the art that allows them to mimic the awesome powers of monsters and far exceed the normal boundaries of mortals. However, they use the techniques of beasts in their mortal forms, placing enormous strain on their physical selves.

While the magical process of absorbing a monster’s essence into oneself has reduced the occurrence of physical incidents, there is an increased danger of Rishfee in particular succumbing mentally and spiritually to the beast within... No Immortal in history has ever reached the end of his natural lifespan, and this speaks eloquently of the pain they endure despite constant improvements to their art.

Rishfee's prognosis is to die within a year. His cellular structure is unsuitable.
Amnaf's cellular structure differs. We believe we have created the perfect Immortal.

Only those with her strength of spirit to resist the savage call of the beast within--and those like her, willing to sacrifice a future to carry out their duty--have the necessary qualities to walk the path of the blue mage.

...
[He clears his throat.]

This recent information leads me to request something of you both.

[Filtered- Vincent.]

When this happens next, I want you to kill me.

...No-one else would stand much of a chance of actually doing so. If any part of me remains, I will not attack you. You have killed a soulflayer before. I ask that you'd do the same to me, when the day is to come.

[Filtered- Rughadjeen.]

I realize what happened at the Azouph Isle staging point. I absorbed Nareema. She exists within me now, as part of me. Needless to say, an Immortal absorbing the power of an Immortal is punishable by death. If you wish to enforce this, I will take my punishment with good will.

[Filtered to them both.]

... I await your decisions.

Lately my mind has wandered far more than I would like it to. I find myself thinking things I would never dream of.

I've heard far too much and while I'm glad to have been allowed such information here on Gaia, I cannot help but wish I hadn't been told. Hadn't been told or hadn't seen.

It is still taking quite some time to adjust to this. I just hope I'm not too late when I finally feel ready.

[His voice changes slightly and becomes less personal.]

Last time I was here I did very little travelling. I've done more this time than I did last, but I do not want to grind to a halt. I know that things, strange things, are going on in the world but I would like to request places that would be...somewhat of an alright experience to visit.

[The feed opens on a man who looks as though he's making a great effort to contain his panic. He exhales heavily, raking his fingers through his hair as he tries to compose himself.] Hey, is this thing on? The moogle said I should be able to post a broadcast or somethin' if I just followed his instructions. Looks like it's recording. Anyway!

[The scenery over his shoulder seems to be the waterfront in Treno, near one of the nicer hotels. He rubs at the back of his neck, sheepishly.]

The moogle said there wasn't a way to get back, but, uh... anyone around here know of any loophole for that? I don't really have time to be kickin' around another world, I've got some stuff going on back home. I just got some-- [He pauses briefly, frowning.] -- bad news. I gotta get back so I can find my little girl. It's really important, so if there's anyone who can lend me a hand, I'd really appreciate it. Name's Laguna. Look me up, please? Thanks.

... I just sort of became the president of a nation recovering from tyrannical rule, so... it wouldn't be a charity case. I can pay you.

To any and all travellers or merchants who wish or plan to journey by foot to or from the regions of Dali, Lake Bresha, Macalania woods or between them, you may find this of note. It is a warning.

Recently, a region has sprouted from between them named Caedarva Mire... or in the common tongue, Illusion Mire. It is from the continent I once called home. And it is a very dangerous place - filled with undead, fomor, imps, wild and savage creatures, parasitic insects and plantlife, and most importantly a species of cannibalistic creatures known as the Merrow and their sisters, the Lamiae.

I ask you to divert your operations around the Mire and not attempt to cross it- at least not
until initial observation and exploration has been conducted. I thank you, and I remind you this is for your own safety. The more accidents that happen there, the more numerous the Lamia's army of undead will become. I have no desire, nor wish, for somewhere like that to claim any more lives.

[Filtered to Vincent.]

I'm going. I need to visit Azouph Isle's staging point within the Mire. An Immortal should be there.. and I need to speak to her as soon as possible.

[Filtered to Rughadjeen.]

We need to reclaim imperial territory. We will be leaving tonight. With luck, we should reach the proximity of the Mire by sunrise tomorrow. That gives us chance to get to Azouph and avoid the Ephramadian fomor which infest the territory at nightfall. A survey of Nashmau is appropriate. Prepare yourself well and do not be late.

I have to go somewhere. I will return eventually.

[There is a very unamused, very angry looking Elvaan staring down at the device given to him once again. He had been hoping that when he had woken up back in his own world that it would be the last time he would ever see it. But no, it hasn't worked out that way. He doesn't speak, not yet. Instead he looks off to his right and a small frown appears as he looks upon the destruction he remembers happening before.

He looks back, the frown is gone and once again the look of an annoyed elf glares at the screen.

It seems that my time here was not over before.

I feel as though I've lost touch with this world. Simply remaining idle as the world carries on with whatever is happening. I guess my homesickness has just gotten worse.

Maybe I should travel and see more of Gaia? I've only been in Alexandria and passed through Lindblum. Does any one have any suggestions? I need to keep my mind distracted.

[Filtered to Rishfee]

Rishfee, how are you? I apologise for not keeping in touch or checking in very much.

[A face appears on the screen, just a bit too close at first, then leaning in even closer. He leans back to a more comfortable distance, but moves back and forth in the camera, the inquisitive look on his face clear as it seems he's examining the camera while it's broadcasting.]

Hmmm... amazing. R&D would love to get a look at this. If this works the way this says it does, it would be a wonderful item to equip our field workers with. Although, I'm not sure how easily they would be able to replicate it. Hmmm...

[The man blinks suddenly and twitches as if he were just reminded of something he needs to be doing at this moment.]

Well, let's see if this works. Hello? Can anyone out there hear me? My name is Reeve Tuesti and I seem to be in... [He looks around] some kind of church, I believe. I'm not exactly sure where it is though. All I can tell is that there seems to be a hall of worship and many, many books around here. Aside from the moogle who gave me this, I haven't been able to find much else around here, including the exit. If there is anyone out there who may be able to render some assistance, please let me know. Thank you.

[The video feed seems to spin around sharply for a moment as Reeve seems to be studying the device from multiple angles, muttering things such as "Hmmm" and "I see" from off-camera. Finally, he sets it down on the table, giving a view of a wall with a bookcase partly in-frame next to it. Reeve goes to the bookcase and stands there, examining the titles.]

Hmmm... Modern Treatises on Contemporary Oligarchies... Care and Feeding of Hybrid Pack Animals... Physiology and Kinesiology... AH! [He bends down and pulls a book from one of the lower shelves] An Analysis of Continental Geology. Well, if I have to wait, I'm sure I can learn something from this. Maybe at least it will tell me where I am...

[Reeve carries the book back toward the table near the camera, disappearing out of frame. After a few minutes, the feed times out.]

[OOC: Sorry about that last post. As I've said, I'm new to all this. I'm working on getting the feel of everything down still, so feel free to poke me if I screw up again. Thanks.]

He's taken out his skyphone and switch it on in the hopes he will get answers for this incident. He looks tired, agitated and more than a little pissed off. He tries to take a calming breath but it isn't working at all.]

It seems that no matter what I do I cannot wake Rishfee up. I have been trying for the past two days now to no avail. He passed out with no warning and whilst his breathing seems to be that of someone simply sleeping...he just...won't wake up.

I had hoped with the days repeating he would be all right by the morning.

I find myself yet again asking for some kind of help. Does anyone know if something may have caused this passing out, or is it simply an illness that forces it's way to work through these horrid events?

I shouldn't have left his side.

I'm sure you have better things than stay here and bother me with knowlege you have already imparted to me twice before. [The tone of voice is starting to hold a touch of subtle annoyance and rather more obvious blunt dismissal. The moogle hovers there for a minute almost seeming to debate if it should try to still explain or if it should just take the dismissal and go onto its next task and deal with more pleasant people.

Once the moogle has departed, the video once again holding the head and shoulders of the president in view, only sans moogle now. Whatever he might have been going to say previous has been apparently put off for now as he just has one question for those whom might see this.]

I know I am not the only one to be suffering. If anyone happens to have even the smallest idea of what is going on, would you kindly inform us?

[His tired voice and expression are a little more angry looking.]

General Gadalar isn't answering his phone. At least let me know you have done anything ridiculous to anger the people of Alexandria, Flameserpent. I have faith in you, but previous...incidents where your temper has been provoked leave me no choice but to make sure. Especially with Najelith not being here.
