[Mjrn arrives on time and prepared. She brought along plenty of restoratives, though hopes that it will be enough. Upon seeing Delita, she nods solemnly.

When they enter the mines, Mjrn focuses and casts Protect and Shell on each one of them. She's not sure what other dangers they might have to face before reaching the tree and its guardian, but it's better safe than sorry. In addition, she's hovering above the ground thanks to the new addition of her boots. Given their surroundings, it can't hurt to take protection against Earth-based attacks.

Gripping her spear, she remains silent and listens for any tell-tale noises of trouble approaching.]

[Following closely behind is Ashe, the determination in her eyes less visible once they enter the dimly-lit tunnels of the mine.

The princess may be quiet, yet there's no questioning her readiness to face such a foe. In fact she's drawn to think of tactics, of the Trickster, a fiendish white chocobo which demanded multiple changes in strategy to overcome.

As for Mjrn's protectives, they proved invaluable upon their last encounter, and are welcome now.]

[Reis follows the group, cautious and concerned, with the precious chalice held to her chest. Red chocobos are notorious for using the crushing Choco Meteor on aggressive adventurers. This is only one of her concerns, feeling ill at ease being within mines once more. Memories there are of wandering lost and confused in the Gollund Colliary, surrounded by monsters and men seeking to hunt the Holy Dragon.]

[Kain has never liked enclosed spaces, and a mine is especially the last place for someone who prefers open air. He'd had a bad enough time on that irritating Phantom Train, during the gods' war. Yet he feels it to be very important to join in the myrrh collecting as much as possible... so here he is, fulfilling his duty. So any anxiety he might have is well hidden. He follows along quietly, keeping an eye out for signs of monsters.]

[Delita is only speaking when spoken to at this point, focusing on the task at hand. Nothing will halt their progress to gathering the drop.

Upon hearing a kweh in the distance he takes quick stock of the party's readiness before charging upon their foe.]

[Mjrn isn't terribly comfortable underground either, though some of that is due to her traumatic experience at the Henne Mines. This isn't the same situation and she knows it, but fighting back those memories and focusing on the present does take some effort.

At any rate, she hears the chocobo long before it reaches Delita's Hume ears and straightens, renewing their protective magicks. Once everyone is covered, she starts forward again. As Delita charges on the ground, she jumps as high as the area will allow, for an attack from above.]

[The moment Ashe perceives the familiar call of their avian foe, her hands reach behind to unsheathe the Sword of Kings, the blade unspokenly accompanying her for more than one purpose. Despite its weight she wields it unhindered, the drive to succeed heightening her awareness and fuelling her will.

Upon her strike she considers the use of Holy - her most powerful of available magicks. Should the chocobo prove itself strong against physical attacks, the princess will resort to casting.]

[While the Humes strive to use physical attacks, Reis draws on her heritage. She takes a deep breath and upon exhale, breathes out a blast of Holy Breath, engulfing the avian in shimmering light.]

[Like Mjrn, Kain takes to the air, then comes flying down to aim a Sky Rave at it, spinning straight downward and jabbing at the chocobo.]

[Delita is concerned by how easily the battle seems to be going at this point. Holding his stronger skills in check, while he tests out the foe's skills he slashes at its feet.

Expecting the sword to hit its mark, Delita is surprised with the bird swoops its beak down in an effective parry while a wing came round and smacked him on his head.

Backing away, he wondered what it was going to take to defeat this foe.]

[Mjrn sees the attack while descending, just in time to deliver her own blow. Her spear tears along the birds side, delivering a decent-sized gash in addition its other wounds. However, that provokes the bird into countering with a blow that sends the Viera crashing into the wall. Dazed, she winces and pulls herself up.]

Kain! Reis!

[If Delita and Ashe can keep its attention on them, the trio can work on that combined breath attack spoken of earlier. Mjrn has been practicing, and she sees no better chance than now....]

[Between avoiding the beating of the bird's wings, Ashe hears Mjrn's call to the others - which likely signifies a forthcoming attack of some kind. As such she focuses intently on distracting the chocobo, stepping in close, backing away quickly as it tries to peck at her, trying to tease it into turning around and leave it vulnerable to attack from behind.

While she senses its mounting frustration with her, Ashe spares a quick glance toward the knight.]

Delita - We must make it turn its back on the others -

[Delita feints at the bird before drawing back towards Ashe, recognition that their attacks weren't achieving the desired results.]

'Tis no problem. We can hope they fare better than us.

[He lifts his sword waving it towards the bird, hoping for the distraction.]

[Reis nods at Mjrn, taking advantage of the chocobo's sudden swing of attention to Ashe and Delita. It's a risky venture but one that needs to be made. She starts to inhale deeply, waiting for the other two to be ready.]

From:

[Kain nods, moving closer into a good position. They've not had a chance to try this in a situation like this one before, but that's all the more reason he's eager to see how it goes. He watches the others closely, inhaling as Reis does and preparing the same...]

[Mjrn, watching them, times her own breathing. She inhales deeply, holds it a moment, then unleashes a blast of lightning breath toward the bird. If the timing is right, it will combine with the other two breath attacks.]

[Little attention is paid by Ashe to her companions, since the chocobo's state of irritation with herself and Delita has built to a point where taking her attention away would spell disaster. It screeches and jabs with its beak, the princess' agility tested almost to the limit as she and her friend keep the bird distracted.

But then, the very moment upon which the others begin their attack, the fiend throws its head skyward, flapping its wings rapidly and shrieks, unleashing Choco-Comet.]

[He keeps his attention on the bird as well, trusting that their companions plan will be successful.

Having seen many a rabid chocobo cast meteor in the course of his travels, Delita recognized the signs. Prepared as he was for the onslaught, watching Ashelia be hit was not something he wished to occur.

He watched the meteors start to form and as soon as the bird had reached the point of no return, he turned and rushed the Princess roughly shoving her out of the incoming fire.

Ashe safe, there wasn't even enough time to cover his face before he was enveloped within the fiery molten rock.]

[Reis exhales in coordination with Mjrn, releasing a blast of Fire Breath to combine with the others to surround the chocobo in a swirling inferno of elemental attack. Unfortunately there is nothing to be done for Delita who's taken the brunt of the distraction until their combination completes as it needs total concentration to work together.]

[And Kain unleashes a burst of Ice Breath right along with them, adding yet another element to the mix, ensuring that the chocobo will get the maximum in varying types of damage. He watches that mix engulf the target, satisfied that it looks like the combined attack really looks to be much stronger than any would have been alone.]

[Mjrn is likewise pleased with their Band and its effect on their target...though there isn't much chance to stand back and admire the view. A moment later, she's bombarded with that Choco-Comet and staggers, dazed.]

[Ashe barely steadies herself amid the sudden shock of Delita colliding with her before realisation hits as hard as the impact upon her friend. With a cry she starts forward, a hand clamped to her mouth in alarm as he's engulfed. It ought to be she burning within the molten fire - he deliberately took the comet to save her.

Thanks to the Band's success she is able to focus her attention on the injured. In an instant she's by the knight's side, gasping at the extent of his wounds while trying to keep fear at bay and concentrate on casting a powerful bout of Curaga upon Delita, followed by Renew upon the entire party. If it didn't prove enough... how could she ever forgive herself? How was she deserving... of this?]

[Struggling to breathe throughout the onslaught, Delita waited for the fire to subside. He felt the princess' presence even before the warmth of the healing spell.

While still weakened from the onslaught, Delita passed a compassionate look towards Ashelia before turning his attention back to their foe. He had no intention of relaxing until the chocobo was disposed of, his cloak still betraying the viciousness of the attack.

It had taken no thought to shove her out of the way. Despite her royal line, he wanted her kept safe as her life held great value. He tried to spare a glance to check upon her welfare, worry that she may have been injured in the shove.]

[With Ashe focusing on healing Delita, Reis turns her attentions to the Viera who also took damage from the falling molten rocks. She hurries to Mjrn's side, using her Dragon Gift to restore some of her friend's vitality in exchange for her own. She trusts in Ashe's Renew and her own sweet perfume to gradually restore what she's given away in healing.]

[The restorative magic would hopefully help them enough to finish this. Kain had taken his share of hits in that attack as well, but not enough to really slow him... or that he showed at all just yet. He knew he'd best get on the offensive before the chocobo unleashed its next attack on them. So he leapt yet again to the air.]

[Springing into the air, Kain came up from below the creature into a Rising Dive, spinning with his weapon aimed to cut at the enemy.]

[Mjrn nods to Reis in thanks...then uses Reis' Wind to grant them Regen before the bird can cause more damage. Afterward, she leaps into the air to join Kain, lashing out at the guardian with her spear.]

[Determination to see the foe vanquished has Ashe, too, turning her focus back to the bird, assured of her allies' recovery. Her blade finds its mark to coincide with the others' individual assaults, the princess' confidence in their unified effort increasing.

Occasionally her gaze flashes to Delita, concern lingering.]

[Seeing their foe weakened, Delita was tired of fighting this battle, but still concerned about his friends he limited himself to an attack that wouldn't cause any collateral damage as he rose his sword above head and attacked with a crush punch.]

[While defeat was imminent, his choice of attack ensured that his companions would need to deliver the final blow, but he trusted that those with him would ensure their success.

And with that he dropped to his knee exhausted.]

[Seeing the chocobo weakened, Reis moves closer to the creature. It is her hope it can perhaps be convinced to ally itself to them, before they destroy it completely. If it can be made to see reason, the bird would make a most powerful ally. However, this one has no mind to give heed to the Dragonkin and she ends up severely pecked at for her troubles.]

[Seeing Reis get attacked for her attempt, Kain strikes all the more fiercely at the bird. He takes a couple counterattacks in the process, but notices that even those are much weaker now...]

[Trusting in her ability to help Reis heal, Mjrn redoubles her efforts on the hostile bird. After landing from her strike, she unleashes another breath attack of lightning. This better be the end....]

[Amidst the multitude of attacks, Ashe strikes once more, stepping back only when the lightning breath surrounds their foe, subconsciously standing in front of the kneeling Delita. She hesitates, suspecting the elemental assault to be the final blow and watches, awaiting confirmation of her suspicion should it come.]

[Watching the avian fall, Delita's head drops quickly in relief. It was time then to pick up the chalice and collect the next drop. Before standing, he quickly nods his recognition that their assistance was appreciated.]

[Reis nods as well, then collects the chalice. She places it with careful care under the tree and watches with no small amount of awe as the tree reacts to the item's presence. Shimmers of light streak down the "foilage" until they gather at the pointed tip of the tree, welling up into a single drop which falls into the cup.]
