Lufene is a threat no longer. However, Garland... or perhaps I should say Chaos... escaped us. He was nearly defeated, but four elemental fiends [and there's a pause here] Lich, Marilith, Kraken, and Tiamat... appeared before he could be finished, and transformed him into Chaos, then disappeared.
Chaos and Garland are one. Once, he created a cycle, where he was sent to the past by the four fiends, and became Chaos... only to send the fiends into the future. This cycle brought darkness to the world, and to the crystals. I- we- [There's a pause again, as the warrior tries to think. Some parts of the memories still aren't clear.] The warriors of light traveled into the past, to end the cycle, so that the world might be returned to its proper state.
That is the reason for Garland's transformation.
[And after one final, long pause;] I had heard that there was one of the myrrh trees present in... what was Matoya's cave. Has a drop yet been collected from it?

It's beginning to feel like his life is spent doing nothing more than trying and not quite succeeding at stopping Garland.]I do not know how, but twice now I have seen Garland transform into Chaos. But, what of the fiends?

Although their names and appearances differed, they too corresponded to the four elements in the same way.
...You say you've seen Garland become Chaos? Was... this in the final cycle of the war?
