[Raine's struggling to juggle the phone and an unhappy baby at the same time. She looks pretty worn and tired, and little Brooke is gnawing on her fingers with miserable whines. Mom's at wits' end and finally resorts to checking on the network for advice. This is new territory for her and she's at a loss what to do.]

I think she's teething, but nothing I've tried seems to be helping.

[After another soft whimper from the little one, Raine pulls her closer and rubs her back. Teething woes aren't really all that's eating at her. It's the looming prospect of her husband going off on another volunteering to help job. The last time he took on one of these away from home, he didn't make it back.]

How long will that trip with the chocobos take, do you think?

The only people who can use magic naturally where I'm from are Sorceresses. They... they're vile. The one in Esthar is responsible for the ongoing war my country is engaged in, and the raid on our village for a successor. That's how Elle's parents were killed. They refused to give her up.

Rinoa's one too and- [Okay she's going to stop there before she says something harsh about her son's choice in a girlfriend.] Apparently they go mad with power. That's my understanding of it.

[ Rosa frowns just a little as she listens. ]

I understand... why you would think magic-users are evil in that case, but... even so...

[ She takes a deep breath, unsure how much she wants to say. ]

I will never believe that people are purely evil, magic and power or not. Garland and Lufene are the exceptions. My husband, his brother, and... my best friend have each tried to kill me on at least three separate occasions, but that does not make them horrible people. They were all possessed at times, but even when they were not... I know who they are; I know they would not do such things normally.

Perhaps... some of your Sorceresses are as bad as Zeromus, but I cannot believe they all are. [ It goes against her nature to believe the worst in people. ] Give her a chance. She might surprise you.

[Raine stares blankly in shock. Rosa's husband had tried to kill her? The very idea is outright horrifying to her and there is no disguising it. Cecil did not seem the type to her whatsoever.]

What is it with people being possessed?

[She sighs heavily at this, too overwhelmed with information to process it aloud.]

I am scared for my family. It's been ripped apart once, almost twice. I can't stand the thought of it happening again.

[ She sighs wearily. ]

Cecil is my best friend, we grew up together, and I love him more than anyone in the world, except Ceodore, our son. Things are different here; the people are different. By the definition, a White Mage is supposed to support her allies in battle... and outside. That is my duty, that is my place in life.

[ She pauses just for a second before nodding firmly. ]

I will not happen again. Even in such a time as this, we must be strong. They will return to you. I will make sure of it, as is my duty as a White Mage. This I promise you.
