You can ask Sabin to confirm this. Our father wished for us to rule the kingdom together, as a team, but neither of us wanted the throne. But Sabin hated it, the politics and malice that characterized our world at that time, and didn't want to even pretend to an alliance with the Empire we suspected of killing our father. He wanted to be free - so I proposed a coin toss. At the end of that toss, I had the throne, and he had his life. He left the castle, and we didn't see each other again for ten years.
Our ally Celes also used this coin to bet against a notorious gambler and free-wheeling spirit from our world named Setzer Gabbiani, so he would carry us across the ocean in his airship known as the Blackjack. I haven't had a use for this coin since that day, until now.

I met you, Locke Cole, when you approached me to see about joining the loose alliance of resistance members named The Returners on the orders of Banon, a skilled healer who keeps - kept - his hideaway in a cave on Mt. Kolts. I had to pretend to an alliance with the Empire for seven years in order to keep my lands from being invaded, a pretension which fell apart when you brought a young woman with little memory to Figaro for shelter after escaping with her through the tunnels of Narshe with the help of Mog and several of his kin. You reacted very badly when she cast magic in front of you for the first time, as well.

This is the key to my personal workroom in the basement of the castle, near the engine room - and I'm willing to bet you haven't been able to open that door since you set foot in the place. It's dangerous, so I leave it locked at all times, and don't allow anyone in there without me.
And this is the portable maintenance kit for my autocrossbow [the strange weapon that's slung on his belt], a small vial of oil, one of polish, a couple of spare strings, and a small screwdriver to make any temporary repairs necessary until I can return to the castle and my proper equipment.
You can ask Sabin or Locke to confirm any of these things, though I know the key won't work until I have a door to demonstrate it in.
