[The screen blinks on, set at an odd angle - sideways on the ground, cobblestones clearly showing in most of the picture, along with some rather charming buildings that certain SeeDs might recognize from a certain spider chase. Those, though, are mostly obscured by the sudden moogle foot and paws that appear, trying to bat something away from the device.]

No, don't do that, kupopo! You're going to break it and we jus-

Nonsense, I'll put it back together once I'm done - this really is an inconvenient arrangement; why did you have to add so many buttons to such a small device?

[Pseewwww. The screen goes dark again.]

[Several moments later, it clicks on again, from a different angle - moogle-height, this time. The neon "Nautilis" sign can be seen behind a man with long blond hair, tied away from his face, wearing mostly blue clothing that is also partially armor and holding a tiny screwdriver and a pair of pliers he probably got from a moogle. On the ground in front of him is a Sky Phone with the cover opened and thoroughly half the bits and parts extracted and laid out on the ground in front of him in neat rows.]

Fascinating... This seems to run on such a small power source, yet displays capabilities beyond any of the magitek-

Kupooo. [The moogle is plainly worn out by this man.] Please, just take this one and keep it in one piece, kupo!

Ahh, thank you. [He looks up to take the device, and Edgar's face is shown clearly for the first time as he peers at the screen. He seems to consider something for a moment, then slips the phone into a pocket.]

Are you sure this isn't a dream?

I've never heard of someone disappearing from Gaia and reappearing so quickly. Gaia can be really strange at times.

It's not uncommon for people to have no memories of previous visits to Gaia. Still...it's a little weird that you made a return trip so soon. At least Figaro is here? Unlike a lot of us, you actually have your home.

Go look it up on the mapping device. You'll find it on the Outer Continent, the eastern side. As far as I remember, Lord Rasler and Lady Ashelia were helping run the place until such time as you arrived.

Lord Rasler and Lady Ashelia? There's no one by that name that I know of- is Roland not there?

Roland? I don't know anyone by that name. The last time I saw Figaro Castle, we were busy trying to prevent Kefka from getting inside. I didn't actually get to talk to anyone inside it.

It can't be Kefka - we killed him ourselves, he didn't survive. And there was no way he could come back.

That's not quite true. People aren't only drawn from different worlds here; they're also drawn from different times. So Kefka must have arrived here at some point before you killed him.

Late February, over the Sky Phone. He claimed that he had the power to return to your world and then faded from view.

[She frowns.]

I find it difficult to believe that he is really gone, though. No one has been able to return. Why should he be any different?

He may have believed himself to be different. He deluded himself into thinking he was a god.

Kefka is skilled at illusions, though - he murdered the Empire's best general with that sort of treachery.

He could... impersonating me? [A moment of silence for this idea. Edgar was thinking that Kefka would have used illusions to make himself fade - but this other-Edgar that people had seen wasn't him, as far as he knew.]

Considering we've never met, this probably won't be very convincing, but I'll try. What do you want to know?

[That's it. Locke. She straightens a little, staring at him intently.]

Why does Locke need Phoenix so badly? I can't imagine Kefka would have reason to know that.

[Indeed, that gets a small eyebrow raise. Edgar knows, of course - but Locke doesn't tell that story to just anyone.]

Needed, actually. He found Phoenix, though things didn't turn out the way he hoped - but I think they might have turned out for the better. Rachel and Locke are both at peace, now.

Really? I'm glad to hear that. I think Locke would be, too. He must be from an earlier point, since he was still looking for Phoenix when he arrived.

Hm. I suppose that's good enough for me, though you'll still have to convince the people running your castle. I can't blame them for wanting to be absolutely certain they have the right guy.

I'm sure that will go along way, though if it IS Kefka...you'll need some good luck, anyway. He's been fought quite a few times since arriving and no one's been able to seriously harm him for long.

Resilient enough to cause some serious problems in this world. The damage in Alexandria, Mysidia, Wutai...and we know it's not likely to end there. Everyone's on edge, wondering where he'll strike next. I bet your knowledge would come in handy whenever they have one of those Heads of State meetings.
