[After being told that Vayne wished to speak to him at his chamber, the doctor was put on edge. The timing of this little meeting was far too coincidental to his liking, especially since he just sent a note to that horrible beast called 'Nanaki'. Certain that something was terribly amidst here, Cidolfus' decided to tread lightly when speaking with Vayne today.
That's why instead of bursting into the lord's office with jovial grin, Cidolfus was a tad timid and humble today.]
You wished to see me, my lord? [He bowed slightly before Vayne.]

Date: 2010-02-17 11:16 pm (UTC)Very well. [He sits at the chair settled before Vayne's desk while wondering how this conversation my go.

Date: 2010-02-17 11:26 pm (UTC)It was a talking feline, one more likened to a 'wolf' rather than to a 'courel'. I had hoped that this interesting evolutionary link would spark life within my research of the stones but alas, that creature didn't possess anything magical about it other than its fondness for swears.

However, it appears he is calling for your blood and rallying others to his cause.

That feline seems to have ignored my call for a truce. I assume he is assembling the same lynch mob he formed during my stay in Wutai. Six lunatics attacked me at the manor while you were away on business, each claiming to be a friend of this flea-ridden fiend.
One such man was a young blond with glowing blue eyes who wield a blade bigger than he was, while the other was a young brown-haired man with diagonal scar upon his face. The others I do not remember well but I do know one of them was a Viera.

Date: 2010-02-17 11:47 pm (UTC)How charming. In the future, should you find an animal not suited for the table, nor fit for science, simply have it terminated and spare us the headache.
What is this foolishness he spouts of threats against a marriageable friend? It strikes me as preposterous, but only by half that others would believe it or take the part of a mere creature.

Date: 2010-02-17 11:56 pm (UTC)He has taken my words out of context, I assure you! If I had known he would be this problematic, I would have ended the beast's life rather than spare him. Of course, it would be my own good will towards men and fiend alike that gets me into such peril.
This creature is obviously holding a grudge and he will not cease in his follies until my name is riddled with lies. Even now, I assume he is crusading up and down the streets of Gaia in search of someway to ruin me.
He has begun to do so already. The more lies he spew, the harder it will be to market my beloved Rooks. I am sure he knows this.

Date: 2010-02-17 11:58 pm (UTC)We cannot have your name dirtied, nor the importance of your work diminished by this. I'm sure you understand how vital your brilliant mind figures into the future, my dear Cid.
[A compliment, but Vayne realizes Cid is no fool and putting him on notice that he needs to fix this and fix it now.]
The timing is most inopportune, as I had every intention of offering them at the meeting.

Date: 2010-02-18 12:15 am (UTC)Shall you speak at the meeting, be sure to mention your accomplishments in both Wutai and Troia, my lord. No one can dispute those two facts no matter how badly this hound may speak of me. I will deal with this creature myself in the form of an apologetic letter, one that will be read in public.
[Hear this, Vayne? Its Cidolfus' brilliant mind at work here.]
Then and only then, will I win favor with the public once more by addressing this matter head on. If the feline continues with his outcries for my blood, he shall be scorned by others and his claims put to rest.

Date: 2010-02-18 12:58 am (UTC)[It is a brilliant mind. Vayne approves of it. He's also providing an excuse, albeit one that sickens him, to whisk away the issues.]
I rather dislike the idea that you must apologize for something as trivial as research on an animal. Were it Hume, would be another matter, but this...
Nevertheless, in the end, we shall forge the path to a better future, where man determines his own destiny, without the shackles of false gods or outdated notions.

Date: 2010-02-18 02:03 am (UTC)Fear not, such a humiliation will only become my victory in the end. The public adores a humility and I am more than willing to play the part as the humble old researcher.
[He chuckled lightly once Vayne said those words.]
Indeed, my lord. We will finish what we have started regardless of what earth we walk upon. As long as our hearts remain tethered to this goal, no man nor god can deter us. Agreed?

Date: 2010-02-18 02:17 am (UTC)[Vayne rises to his feet and rolls back out the world map of Gaia he has acquired through the pirate demolition. He also has a collection of military markers, which had previously been used in mapping out strategy for the battle in Troia.]
We hold Wutai and now Troia. This Lair will be cleared of pirates soon enough and I believe it would be wise to use it as a headquarters for the growing navy.
[His eyes coldly scan the parchment, placing markers and touching locations as he talks.]
Larsa in Narshe, and he is easily managed. Hmm, Jidoor is little more than a pleasure center and not worth the effort. Nor these uninhabited areas or ruins. Ah, and the Lady Ashe is to finally settle in the desert. Foolish woman.
Tell me, Cid, is there anything that would be beneficial to your research? Materials or locales?
