[After being told that Vayne wished to speak to him at his chamber, the doctor was put on edge. The timing of this little meeting was far too coincidental to his liking, especially since he just sent a note to that horrible beast called 'Nanaki'. Certain that something was terribly amidst here, Cidolfus' decided to tread lightly when speaking with Vayne today.

That's why instead of bursting into the lord's office with jovial grin, Cidolfus was a tad timid and humble today.]

You wished to see me, my lord? [He bowed slightly before Vayne.]

[Vayne's seated casually behind the desk, one leg resting on the knee of the other. Nonetheless, he looks annoyed.]

Ah, Cid, there you are. Have a seat.

I understand you had a unique creature you were experimenting on.

It seems it has a fondness for public denouncements as well. I care little what subjects you use in your research. Science is your forte, not mine.

[He shifts slightly in his seat, resting his chin upon his hand.]

However, it appears he is calling for your blood and rallying others to his cause.

[This face? Vayne is not happy.]

How charming. In the future, should you find an animal not suited for the table, nor fit for science, simply have it terminated and spare us the headache.

What is this foolishness he spouts of threats against a marriageable friend? It strikes me as preposterous, but only by half that others would believe it or take the part of a mere creature.

Should they arrive, they are to be taken for disturbing the peace and put to the sword. I shall not brook their nonsense for the sake of an animal. Gabranth shall see that it is so.

We cannot have your name dirtied, nor the importance of your work diminished by this. I'm sure you understand how vital your brilliant mind figures into the future, my dear Cid.

[A compliment, but Vayne realizes Cid is no fool and putting him on notice that he needs to fix this and fix it now.]

The timing is most inopportune, as I had every intention of offering them at the meeting.

A simple mistake none could fault you for. How were you to know the creature was somewhat sentient?

[It is a brilliant mind. Vayne approves of it. He's also providing an excuse, albeit one that sickens him, to whisk away the issues.]

I rather dislike the idea that you must apologize for something as trivial as research on an animal. Were it Hume, would be another matter, but this...

Nevertheless, in the end, we shall forge the path to a better future, where man determines his own destiny, without the shackles of false gods or outdated notions.

Quite.

[Vayne rises to his feet and rolls back out the world map of Gaia he has acquired through the pirate demolition. He also has a collection of military markers, which had previously been used in mapping out strategy for the battle in Troia.]

We hold Wutai and now Troia. This Lair will be cleared of pirates soon enough and I believe it would be wise to use it as a headquarters for the growing navy.

[His eyes coldly scan the parchment, placing markers and touching locations as he talks.]

Larsa in Narshe, and he is easily managed. Hmm, Jidoor is little more than a pleasure center and not worth the effort. Nor these uninhabited areas or ruins. Ah, and the Lady Ashe is to finally settle in the desert. Foolish woman.

Tell me, Cid, is there anything that would be beneficial to your research? Materials or locales?
