CECIL'S PARTY

[ It had really been Lilisette's idea, and she had been instrumental in getting it all planned out and running. Rosa was grateful to the girl's diligence and cheer, willing to help out wherever needed. The courtyard of the castle was set up with decorations and refreshments, and tables and chairs had been set up as well, in case people wanted to sit down for a little bit. The castle was also being decorated, so people could also wander around if they wanted to as well.

For her part, Rosa had sent Cecil on set duties for the day, periodically checking up on him to be sure he was doing all right and to be sure he wasn't planning on going back before they were ready.

Eventually, everything was prepared, the guests were due to arrive shortly, and Rosa was on her way to fetch her husband. ]

[Kain's arrival hasn't slipped past Edge's notice.]

Who's the girl?

[Unfamiliar with this person, Reis half-retreats behind Kain and looks up at him for some sign that this is someone trustworthy.]

[Edge earns a glare for frightening Reis, and it's to her he turns first.]

...he's safe. Relatively. This is Edge, a- [How to describe this?] an ally.

[A harsher look at Edge.]

The lady is Reis, and... [And he's never really said this yet, how to put this...] ...We're together.

[Conflicted Edge is conflicted. How to be nice to the pretty girl while egging on the big dragoon.]

[He gives Kain a sly wink before trying to look around him to Reis with a warm inviting smile.]

Hi there. I'm Edge. I've known Kain for a long time.

[You hear that Kain. He knows all about you. You "kidnap" this lady and you'll have him to deal with.]

[Kain quietly shoots Edge a Doom Glare but he inwardly has a burst of nervousness. Reis knows much about his past and he's told her about how he's had those wrong feelings for Rosa, but... he's still anxious about Edge ruining things somehow.]

...Not nearly so long as Cecil and Rosa have.

[Reis nods faintly when Kain explains the association, but stays where she is as it's safer and less intimidating for her. Still, she bestows a small smile in his direction.]

Greetings, Edge.

[She starts to say something further, then pauses. There is some sort of tension here, and while she is perhaps not as attuned to the nuances of Hume behavior as it might appear she should be, Reis is all too aware there is something akin to clashing males happening.]

[Rydia approaches them at a brisk pace, having seen that Doom Glare. Her tone is cordial, but she arches an eyebrow at Kain and Edge.]

Hello, Kain...Reis. I assume my husband is behaving himself?

[He better be.]

Me? Of course! I was just introducing myself to Reis.

[Kain keeps the harsh expression focused on Edge, although he eventually nods.]

...He's behaving, for now.

[Why yes, Reis is quite certain she's stumbled into something. Rydia's arrival eases that for her a touch and she slips out from half-hiding behind the dragoon.]

Forgive me, I did not realized he was your spouse.

[Rydia glances at Edge and Kain a moment longer before nodding, mollified...for now. Then she smiles warmly at Reis.]

We eloped in May. It wasn't exactly high-profile.

[Edge slides an arm around Rydia.]

You two know each other?

[He smiles warmly at the ladies.]

[Puts an arm around Reis.]

I believe so?

[Looks between the two.]

We do, though perhaps not as well as I should like.

[Rydia receives a smile from her at least. Reis is attempting to acclimate to the new Hume for her sake but it's still an adjustment.]

[She nods at Reis' words.]

Well, that can change. I'm glad you've come...both of you.

[Edge slides a wink over to Kain.]

It needs to.

We're only here for Cecil's sake.

[Kain is pretty sure both of them would sooner avoid all the people around otherwise.]

[This large a gathering is far from ideal for extended visiting, but Reis nods a little.]

How long shall your visit last?

[Rydia ignores Kain's somewhat rude comment for now, focusing on that other question.]

Not long. Alfitaria needs governing, after all. Besides, I have a chalice to fill, so I'm sure we'll have to continue that quest soon.

[Edge nods in agreement with Rydia.]

But you should visit us in Alfitaria after we're back!

Us? Visit... there?

[Kain has always been one to tread lightly around Alfitaria. He glances at Reis, though, attempting to say the right thing for her sake.]

If you ever wanted to...

I have not seen as much as I would like to and if we now have cause to go...?

[She checks with Kain by look, then back to the other couple with a shy smile, just to make sure the invitation is genuine.]

I would not wish to impose.

[Rydia shakes her head, flashing a warm grin at Reis.]

You wouldn't, not at all. And the city may seem big, but there are some wonderfully peaceful and secluded areas within.

[Besides, Edge knows how much Rydia likes company.]

Come on. It'll be fun.

['Fun?' Kain seems more skeptical, but he looks at Reis and his glance instantly lightens up.]

Then perhaps the three of us will travel there sometime.
