CECIL'S PARTY

[ It had really been Lilisette's idea, and she had been instrumental in getting it all planned out and running. Rosa was grateful to the girl's diligence and cheer, willing to help out wherever needed. The courtyard of the castle was set up with decorations and refreshments, and tables and chairs had been set up as well, in case people wanted to sit down for a little bit. The castle was also being decorated, so people could also wander around if they wanted to as well.

For her part, Rosa had sent Cecil on set duties for the day, periodically checking up on him to be sure he was doing all right and to be sure he wasn't planning on going back before they were ready.

Eventually, everything was prepared, the guests were due to arrive shortly, and Rosa was on her way to fetch her husband. ]

[ It's a half-truth at this point, but she doesn't say anything else as she leads him down the not-so-decorated hallways to the courtyard. Hopefully, everyone's inside and ready by now. ]

[As they get closer, Cecil only looks more and more puzzled. He's not imagining all those voices he can hear coming from the courtyard's direction, right?]

[ She just smiles and tugs him closer. Come on, Cecil! Almost there! She just hopes it will be a good surprise. ]

[The voices only get louder. As they emerge into the courtyard, Cecil stops up short as he takes in the sight of so many people gathered -- friends, family, comrades... He blinks and looks at Rosa, bewildered.]

Rosa? What's all this?

[ Rosa turns to face him, taking his hands in hers. It's impossible for her to hide the radiant smile on her face. ]

We wanted to celebrate your birthday and your return. What better time for something like this than when everyone needs the uplift? We are all happy for your return, Cecil.

[ But Rosa most of all. ]

[His expression breaks into a smile; he's honoured and flattered all at once that they'd go to such lengths for him. Really, Cecil should know by now not to expect anything less from Rosa.

He leans in to kiss her to show his gratitude, but it's only brief, with so many people around. Then he offers her his arm. Best not to keep everyone waiting any longer.]

[ She's glad to see that smile, glad he seems not to mind this celebration. The kiss is returned, quickly but with no less fire than any other kiss they've shared. ]

I had hoped you would not mind.

[ She takes his offered arm. Whatever he wants to do, wherever he wants to go, and whoever he wants to see... she'll follow if he wants her to. This is his party and she'll do her best to make it a good one. ]
