CECIL'S PARTY

[ It had really been Lilisette's idea, and she had been instrumental in getting it all planned out and running. Rosa was grateful to the girl's diligence and cheer, willing to help out wherever needed. The courtyard of the castle was set up with decorations and refreshments, and tables and chairs had been set up as well, in case people wanted to sit down for a little bit. The castle was also being decorated, so people could also wander around if they wanted to as well.

For her part, Rosa had sent Cecil on set duties for the day, periodically checking up on him to be sure he was doing all right and to be sure he wasn't planning on going back before they were ready.

Eventually, everything was prepared, the guests were due to arrive shortly, and Rosa was on her way to fetch her husband. ]

Cecil?

[Rydia arrives early, but she does her best to find out where Cecil is...and avoid him. She doesn't want her sudden appearance to tip him off to the party being prepared. So, instead she goes to seek out Rosa instead...and this Lilisette. If she can help with preparations, then at least she'll be too busy to give into temptation.]

[Upon seeing Lili, Rydia smiles politely.]

Hello! I'm not too late to help, I hope?

You're a guest of His Majesty today. There's no need to help.

Not that I don't appreciate the sentiment! I just wish for everyone to be able to see today as a small reprieve.

[Rydia shrugs.]

As you wish, but I really don't mind. It's nice to keep busy beforehand, that's all.

[And she's suddenly sheepish, remembering something.]

...I didn't give my name over the Sky Phone, did I? It's Rydia. I'm from Cecil's world.

Oh! You're the woman that helped Excenmille. I'm indebted to you for your kindness. I know he isn't the easiest child to get along with.

I'm a dancer from Excenmille's world. We're from the same kingdom, but I fear I'm not a suitable replacement for the caretakers he had there.

[She nods at mention of the boy, merely smiling at the description of him.]

He wasn't a bother, really; just confused, and that's understandable enough. I hope he likes it better, here. And...don't underestimate yourself. I'm sure you're doing all you can for him. Besides, having a familiar face from home helps a great deal, even if he doesn't say it aloud.

I have a feeling he misses you and your home more. But I hope you're right. I hope he's able to find a place for himself here on this world.

Truth be told, I'm from a time when Excenmille is much older than I. When I was growing up I even had a schoolgirl crush on him, if you can believe it... But I traveled to the past to try to save my father, and that's how I came to know Excenmille as a child. His life was hard, and what he dedicated his life to is gone here.

Forgive me, you're here to enjoy the party and I'm prattling on about such matters.

[Rydia shakes her head.]

Don't worry about it. I understand time-weirdness all too well; Cecil and Rosa are much younger, in my time...and Ceodore isn't even born yet. It took a while to adjust to the family as they are now.

[A sad smile forms.]

I'm sorry that Excenmille has lost so much. I can only hope he finds a purpose in this new world.

Truly? King Cecil and Queen Rosa are so easy to get along with, I suppose it's easy to get swept along with the flow of things, even if they're older now.

I took the advice of a friend and bought him a chocobo. I hope it can provide a momentary distraction, at least. It seems to have caught his interest for the time, though I still worry he'll run off and get himself into trouble. If there was one thing he and his friends excelled at, it was getting into trouble.

[She nods, a wry smile forming.]

I'm not surprised. I noticed he has a keen interest in joining the cause against Garland. [Not said in a scandalized tone, more thoughtful than anything else.] When the times comes, I wonder if there's any holding him back.

Though...I'd be a hypocrite if I tried. I was seven years old when I first joined Cecil.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. If he's determined to do it, I'll never be able to stop him.

Seven? That... What a determined child.

[Rydia shrugs, not about to go into detail on Cecil's birthday of all days.]

I didn't have much of a choice, to be honest. Still, back to my point. The young can surprise you with what they can do. Besides...it's better for them to have supervision during such times than run off into it alone, right?

[ Rosa is trying to steer people in the opposite direction from Cecil's whereabouts and warn people not to go looking for him. When she spots Rydia, she smiles warmly and heads over. ]

Rydia!

[Rydia grins and goes over to hug her.]

I'm not to early, am I? He doesn't know?

[ Rosa takes the hug with a grin. ]

No, not yet. I have been keeping him occupied across town. Did you just arrive? Is Edge with you?

[She nods.]

Of course. I wouldn't let him miss this celebration. He should be along at any moment. Hopefully, he'll listen to what I said about not seeking Cecil out just yet.

I hope so as well. Lilisette has put so much effort into this, I would hate to see the surprise be ruined.

[ Not that she thinks Edge will ruin it, but can't hurt to be prepared. ]

How have things been with you two?

We're well! Just doing our best to help Alfitaria...and waiting for whenever Regent Cid needs us next. I suspect it won't be that long.

[Now that all the shrines have their crystals? It will be soon time to confront Garland again.]

[ Rosa nods. ]

I hope that time is soon. It would be nice to put Garland in his place finally. No more people would be torn from their worlds... and Gaia would be calm once more.

[Rydia nods eagerly.]

Right. It really does feel like it will happen now, doesn't it? No more waiting for clues or crystals or whatnot. Now, we know what to do.

[ Rosa nods in return. ]

It's hard to believe... after so long, it may come to an end so soon.

It will...but for now, I'm happy to concentrate on Cecil and his birthday. Is there anything I can help with?

[ That gets a smile and a nod. ]

If you're looking for something to do, we still need to decorate the rest of the castle.
