[Shortly after emerging from the Water Shrine, Rydia turns on her phone. She can't hide the exhaustion in her voice completely, but there are some things she needs to know.]

How did the other teams fare? Did you defeat your guardians? And...did you encounter Lufene, too?

[Locke's a little out of breath still, and it takes a moment to realize what she's saying.]

Lufene! No. Are you all right?

Thanks to Porom and a lot of healing, I am. It could have been worse.

[Frustrated sigh.]

It wasn't even a real fight. She was just toying with us.

The Water Crystal, of course. We didn't give it to her, but that didn't stop her from harassing us until she was bored enough to leave.

Lufene. She's the right hand of Garland, his Angel of Death. She harassed us at the Water Shrine. I thought she might have tried to interfere with the others.

No, there was no one like that at the Earth Shrine, only a great undead guardian.

She didn't hurt Palom did she?!

Don't worry, Leonora. She didn't do anything that Porom couldn't fix.

[Really, Leonora's got no room to fuss about Palom leaving her out of the loop when she's the one that came off the airship knocked out.]

I'm better. We accomplished our task, at least, and that's what's important.

What you and those who went to the Earth Shrine? Did everyone make it out okay?

Yes. She waited until we defeated the Kraken, then appeared and demanded that we hand over the Water Crystal. I'd say she fought us, but it was barely fighting at all. She didn't even try...until the end.

Then she knew you were coming. Garland will have put her up to this... He will be expecting you.

[Sigh.]

No doubt. So much for the element of surprise.

Lufene attacked you? [A definite hint of surprise there.] For us at the Earth Shrine, she... she did not venture there.

I'd say 'lucky' but it sounds like we all had our difficulties.

I would never have expected it to be easy... Garland would not want us to succeed.

I'm fine. Porom already healed me, and all I need is rest. What about your group? Did everyone make out okay?

That is good to hear.

For the most part, yes. Leonara collapsed... she did much to aid us, which... may not have helped. The guardian was flanked by undead, and it itself casted Death. [As there group was mainly fighting force, this wasn't great for Leonora, needless to say, even if she herself could cast basic white magic and holy spells.] But, we have all made it back to Lindblum.

Good, I'm glad. Now, to hear back from the Fire and Wind Shrine groups....

We fared well, of course, and yes... she appeared.

She did? Oh, wonderful. I take it she toyed with you, too?

Unfortunately she did... I don't know what game she was playing at by that.

She couldn't seriously think we'd had over the crystals to her.

Agreed. She appeared to have an ulterior motive, whether it was simply to toy with us... I don't know. I doubt this is the last we'll see of her.

Now I wonder if the crystals are truly safe....

I know. After all that we went through... [Sigh.]
