I wasn't made into a l'Cie by choice. l'Cie are made against their will by the fal'Cie who feed the humans and keep them alive. A long time ago there was a war between Pulse, the world below, and Cocoon, where I'm from. We were told, in Cocoon, that Pulse tried to destroy us. We are fed this information from birth, told that Pulse is a living hell and that any l'Cie from there are our mortal enemies.
And then my sister became one.
I went to find her. I quit the Guardian Corps, and got on the train for the Purge. They told us the Purge would take us to Pulse, and that it was for the benefit of everyone in Cocoon. Instead, it was a massacre. PSICOM, the division of the army Nabaat is a member of, ordered everyone on that train killed. None of them were l'Cie. None of them had anything to do with Pulse. They were all innocent.
Barthandalus told us that Cocoon was made with the intent of growing thousands of human lives to be used as a sacrifice to bring his God back.
