What makes you think that the young man will cheat death so easily to support your claims? I may not know Strife well, but if the General is his foe---then wouldn't this be the opportunity he had hoped to damage Sephiroth's relations with others by stating lies?
It's quite clear that General Sephiroth is the nemesis of Miss Lockhart and her fallen fiance.
