[ When Vanille activates the video function, there's a determined look on her face. She doesn't say anything for a minute, just holding the Sky Phone. But then she looks directly at it and speaks, and her voice is full of quiet determination, the kind that means her decision cannot be swayed. ]

I'm going to see Oerba. I have to see it with my own eyes. Lightning, Serah... take care of Bhakti for me, okay? I won't be gone long.

[ Those who are paying attention might notice she's not in Tifa's apartment. She's not even in the one she's claimed for herself, Lightning, and Serah. She's actually at the docks in Luca, waiting for an airship. This girl's on a mission and she won't be swayed! ]

[Oh, Serah knows that look. And she's smart enough not to try and talk her out of it. But she does have to ask on principle, because she is her friend and she is going to be worried about her.]

Are you going alone?

[ Vanille nods once. ] Yeah. Unless someone else wants to come. [ Which is kind of a roundabout invite, but she's pretty sure Lightning wouldn't like Serah going someplace like Oerba. ]

I need to see it. Even if no one's there. [ No one but Cie'th. She remembers what it looked like, but she still can't help it. She needs to go. ]

[Oh, she would if you asked her. But there's one thing with that. The fact she isn't trained at all in magic, she isn't that strong and would probably slow Vanille down.] I would go with you... but... it wouldn't be safe for either of us. I can't defend myself... it wouldn't be fair to you...

I know. It's okay. We'll- me and Light- we'll both be waiting for you here.

[ She wouldn't mind. Sob, the company would be great, but... Serah's probably right. So, Vanille just nods. ]

Maybe some other time, then. [ She's trying so hard to be happy and optimistic about it. But it's so hard, too. ] I'll be sure to tell you guys when I get there okay. You don't have to worry about me! [ Besides, if there are Cie'th there, Vanille knows how to avoid them. She lived in Oerba for nineteen years. She knows all of its secrets! ]

Make sure you do! [she nods, trying to smile too.] Have you got long before you leave? The least I can do is come see you off.

I'm at the docks, but I've got a few minutes. The next airship isn't leaving for a while.

Right. [Serah nods, and the feed jerks as she clambers to her feet, phone unbalanced until she's half way to the front door, when she stops again, saying one last thing before cutting the feed.] Be there in a few.

....

[It actually takes her longer than she anticipated, since even though she could mostly master the run there, it was when she got to the unfamiliar docks that it took her a moment to find her bearings. Eventually, though, Serah spots the familiar redhead and breaks into another one of those runs.] V... Vanille!

[ Vanille is waiting patiently by this point, looking around at the docks when she hears her name. Turning around, she smiles and waves happily to Serah, hurrying forward to give her a warm hug. ]

Serah! You made it!

[Serah returns the hug in kind, taking the moment to catch her breath before she speaks again.] Just barely... who knew docks could be so confusing? [she laughs.]

[ Vanille laughs brightly and nods, pulling back. ] Yeah! It's more confusing than Bodhum was when I arrived. But I like it here. Everyone's been so nice.

That's true. Tifa took us all in... and the kids... it's a nice place to be, by the sea. It's... nice, here.

Yeah! And there's blitzball and Sphere Break, too! Maybe we should play sometime.

Don't you have to hold your breath to play Blitzball....? Underwater? [she laughs.] Guess we'd have to learn how to do that for so long, first.

[ She laughs. she'd meant sphere break, but the other would be fun too! ] We could play Sphere Break, though! It might be fun, even if we never really compete.

I guess so. Now that one would be easier. It could be interesting...

[she trails off before asking,] Do you know how long you'll be gone for?

And we might meet people! [ She smiles and then tilts her head, thinking.]

Only a few days, I think. I just want to make sure... Oerba's really there. Maybe something's there that I should know about. [ Like that tree everyone keeps mentioning. ]

[she nods.] Yeah. If Bodhum was here, I wouldn't hesitate going to see it... [even if it was Post Purge, like what her visit to it had eerily reminded her of. It would always be her home.]

People mentioned... a tree, didn't they? I wonder what it could be.

[ She understands. More than she can say. ]

A Myrrh Tree, I think they called it. It's related to the Chalice I woke up with. [ Which she pulls out of ~~hammerspace~~ a bag she's taken to carrying. ] Someone told me this would collect the stuff from the tree. I'd... like to find out.

I can't let you go alone. [ The 'Fang would murder me' is implied. ]

[ Good luck catching her! ] I won't be gone long. I'll be fine! [ Fang would understand. ]

Unless you and Serah want to come? [ Headtilt. She could live with that. Besides, she'd said she wanted to show Serah Oerba, so why not? ]
