There has been something going on here as of late. People have been finding themselves lacking abilities or powers they had before, replaced by ones that were not their own.

L'Cie do not have the ability to destroy on the scale that we have just witnessed. I believe that Lightning was affected by whatever it is that is going on.

Yes, it was her. As to her reasoning, I can only give assumptions. Fights with her friends and family, just general anger or rage at being away from her home world... anything could have triggered it.
